Shortly after the announcement of an additional delay forAssassin’s Creed Shadows, details regarding an expansion for the game were leaked, giving potential players an idea of what’s coming to the game post-launch. Originally slated for a November 2024 release,Shadowswas initially delayed to a later release date of July 23, 2025, and just recently, the game has been delayed yet again, to March 20.
As reported byInsider Gaming, details regarding the first expansion forAssassin’sCreedShadowswere made public, apparently accidentally, on the game’s Steam page, revealing thatit will be named"Claws of Awaji", and will include around 10+ hours of gameplay. According to the page’s updated description, which has since been revised to remove any information regarding the expansion, it will be given to players who pre-purchase the game for free and will include “a new region”, “a new weapon type”, and “new skills, gear, and abilities” not included in the base game.

The First Assassin’s Creed Shadows Expansion Has Been Leaked
“Claws Of Awaji” Will be Assassin’s Creed Shadows Post-Launch Expansion
While the leak is relatively minor, and doesn’t include any footage or additional gameplay details, it does give players a small idea of what to expect fromShadows' post-launch content, and a small sneak peek of what the expansion will include. The name implies, for example, thatAwaji Island will be the “new region"included in the expansion, and potentially that the"new weapon type” will be some sort of claw weapon, which, according topreview materials, will not be in either protagonist’s arsenal in the base game.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delayed Yet Again, But There’s A Silver Lining This Time
Ubisoft has announced another delay and a new release date for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, but thankfully, this one is much shorter than the last one.
Unfortunately, there’s little else to draw on in terms of speculation, other than that the approximately 10-hour length ofClaw of Awajicould be the standard length of any further expansions thatShadowsmight receive. Notably,Shadowshas previously canceled its Season Pass, alongside its planned Early Access period, so it’s currently unknown how much post-launch content is planned for the game. In all likelihood, the release of further expansions might depend on howShadowsperforms at launch.

This Assassin’s Creed Shadows Expansion Leak Could Be Massive
AC Shadows' Leaked Expansion Is Essentially Confirmed, Despite Lack Of Official Announcement
While the leak seems to have been an unintended slip-up on Ubisoft’s part, the accidental confirmation of extra, free content could encourage more players to pre-purchase the game - though probably not enough to tip the scales in any meaningful way. As seen byShadows' multiple delays, the game is an essential release for Ubisoft, especially after the relatively poor performance of the studios' 2024 releases likeStar Wars OutlawsandPrince of Persia: Lost Crown.
The leak itself, an accidental update to a store page, resembles the accidental leak of aRed Dead RedemptionPC port, which was mistakenly revealed on the game’s PlayStation Store page before any official announcements took place. While details technically could still change, the “official” leak ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows'“Claws of Awaji” expansion means thatthe leaked information is about as reliable as it can get.
