Seven years after the originalKingdom Come: Deliverancelaunched, players will finally be able to continue Henry of Skalitz, the son of a blacksmith who went on a quest for revenge after his hometown was raided and his loved ones were slain. Throughout the first game, Henry went from being a relatively unskilled underdog to ultimately joining forces with nobles such as Sir Hans Capon. By the end of the game, Henry joined Sir Hans and his squad to deliver a letter to Otto von Bergow to inquire whether he intends to continue supporting King Sigismund after his acts in the first game in an attempt to achieve peace.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2picks up right where the first game left off, with Henry and Hans traveling across the Bohemian Paradise to reach Bergow at Trosky Castle, and it’s been confirmed that at some point, Henry’s journey will take him to Kuttenberg - or Kutná Hora as it is in Czech - with the city being faithfully recreated in its Medieval style by Warhorse Studios with the aid of historians and resources city officials. It’s also been confirmed thatKingdom Come: Deliverance 2will be almost twice the size of the original, with 80 to 100 hours of playtime in the base game alone.

The story naturally catches those who haven’t played the first game through organic dialogue with Sir Hans and his men, and a dream-like sequence, makingKingdom Come: Deliverance 2accessible to newcomers.

The Title Has Been Delayed Into 2025

WhileKingdom Come: Deliverance 2wasoriginally slated for a 2024 releasewindow,Warhorse Studios' PR Manager, Tobias Stolz-Zwilling (aka. Sir Tobi), took to the studio’s social media the week before the game’s appearance at Gamescom 2024 to announce that it had beendelayed until June 14, 2025. This date has some significance as it is the anniversary week of the originalKingdom Come Deliverance, which launched on July 19, 2025.

What Platforms Will Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Be On?

The Title Is A Current-Gen Exclusive

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2will be a current-gen exclusive, coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. As shown in the gameplay reveal at Opening Night Live and at a press eventScreen Rantattended, the graphics, lighting, and performance capture are far more detailed than those of the original game, and it is far greater in scale, so this decision makes sense.

The originalKingdom Come: Deliverance, while backwards compatible and playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, hasn’t received a next-gen update, which Stolz-Zwilling noted was due to the studio focusing entirely on the sequel in an interview withVortex, which gave them time to develop a truly next-gen experience there.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Gameplay Changes

The Game Has Refined Combat And Ranged Weapons Such As Crossbows

From the 20-minute preview at Gamescom and the 4 hours of gameplay at the aforementioned press event,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s combat feels like an improvement over the original, making it easier to get to grips with the melee combat sooner while introducing even more weapons. Whilemelee still features the same overall approach, with a reticle showing the different directions Henry can attack from, the game seems to have more fluid, varied animations for each weapon- a result of Warhorse’s expansion as a studio over the years to have more people working on the animations - that makes them act more like their real world counterpart, with maces being weightier than swords, for example. It also makes it clearer when to prepare for a block, dodge, or counter with icons appearing at key points to warn players of specific windows.

Aside from the melee weapons that many will be familiar with from the first game,Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2also features ranged weaponry such as crossbows, bows and arrows, and gunpowder weaponsto fend off foes from afar rather than getting into close-quarter combat with each of them. This essentially works the same as one would expect from a first-person shooter, as it involves pointing and firing the right trigger on the controller to shoot. However, it should be noted that the crossbow can take some time to reload - as is accurate to the weapon designs of the time - so shooting from a place of cover, being aware of the surroundings, and being prepared to switch to melee combat to attack nearby foes will be imperative to survival.

Characters from Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and Assassin’s Creed.

It should be noted that players can still build their version of Henry to suit their playstyle - it is an RPG after all - and the game still features minigames for Alchemy from the first, along with new skills such as blacksmithing. However, Henry only carries over skills he learned in the main story, and players do have to start from scratch as their builds fromKingdom Come: Deliverancearen’t carried over to the sequel. In an interview withScreen Rantat the press event in early August, Stolz-Zwilling had the following to say about this decision:

Tobias Stolz-Zwilling: KCD1 is really like rural areas and villages, and you deal with bandits most of the time. In KCD2, now you’re being dragged among kings and armies, and you’re part of a partisan group, and you have to do sabotages and there’s gunpowder weapons, and so it’s huge, way bigger stages now, and I sometimes say that Henry was the champion the Sunday league, and now he’s invited to play in the Premier League, and he will quickly find out that the Premier League is a totally different challenge that he needs to hone his skills.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 - Collector’s Edition

He knows how to play football, but he needs to get way better in that to be able to keep up with the other guys. So some stats will stay the same, so Henry will be able to read. He learned it in the first game, and it would be absurd if he forgot that. These stay, but for the other ones, the weapons and, of course, the new skills and new minigames that are coming, like blacksmithing. Those are, of course, something you have to either hone or learn anew.

WithKingdom Come: Deliverance 2including the historical storytelling and gameplay elements of the original on a grander scale while being accessible to newcomers, there’s plenty of reason for RPG fans to pick up Henry of Skalitz’s story on August 13, 2025. The title is now available for pre-order on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
