Warning: Spoilers for The JoJoLands, Chapter 20Jojo’s Bizarre Adventurepart 9 is finally revealing how its protagonist’s Stand ability works, and it’s safe to say that there’s never been another Joestar with a Stand quite like it. Jodio’s Stand, November Rain, is extremely unique in terms of how it operates, and will require a clever user to perform at the full extent of its power.

Jodio’s Stand, November Rain, is a non-humanoid Stand, looking like a giant four-legged spider-like creature, which has the ability to pour down rain upon anything directly below it. Jodio can control the power of the rain, making it fall hard and fast, or light and slow, depending on what he wants to do with it. The rain effect has gotten some use so far in the series, deflecting the trajectory of objects flying through the air, or delivering a powerful blow. He can protect a certain area around him, but November Rain has a short range.

How November Rain Really Works

Jodio’s Opponent Determines Precisely How His Stand Functions

As Bobby Jean stalks the stalls in the men’s room, looking for Jodio, he’s able to determine quite a bit about how November Rain works. He states that its range is a 3-meter diameter around Jodio, and deduces that the drops will impact with a substantial amount of force–enough to pass through the human body if they make contact. He fires blindly into each stall, butJodio is able to use November Rain to deflect the bullets, protecting himself. When Bobby Jean finds Jodio, he threatens him to empty his pockets, but that’s when a new detail of November Rain is revealed.

November Rain’s droplets may only fall in a certain radius, but they can bounce off objects and land elsewhere, and should they do that, they’ll maintain their previous mass. A drop which splashed on the ceiling drips again onto Bobby Jean’s head, causing it to go straight through his brain and out his neck, killing him instantly.

November Rain is Unlike Any Previous Joestar’s Stand

An Unusual Stand with Some Highly Practical Applications

Since every previous Joestar has been shown to have a humanoid Stand (except Joseph), Jodio’s November Rain already stood out for that reason alone. While most of them had similarly short ranges, November Rain is additionally hampered by it being vertically falling rain, meaning Jodio has to really let his opponents get close in order to take them out. However, its practical applications have proven to be extremely valuable, such as being capable of deflecting bullets.

If one were to compare it to a previous Stand, the closest is probably Jolyne’s Stone Ocean, which (in addition to punching) could unravel itself into thread and be used in some wildly creative ways. When it came to fighting, though, Jolyne still usually just relied on punching. Being unable to punch makes November Rain a very different sort of Stand, and has made Jodio’s fights feel original and unique. November Rain is one of the most distinctive Stands in all ofJojo’s Bizarre Adventure, and its powers may yet evolve as the story continues.
