Warning: Contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man Chapter #190Chainsaw Man’s latest arc has finally come to a close, spanning a larger number of chapters than any other section of Part Two so far. In what is perhapsthe strangest and most daring section of the entire series, in terms of storytelling at least, several major events take place, including the death of Nayuta, a showdown between Pochita and Yoru, and the defeat of a Primal Devil. Among the chaos that typically defines the series' climactic moments, however, it wasn’t Denji who made the critical move tosecure victory over the Aging Devil.

Devils with names of concepts that represent primal fearsare the strongest in theChainsaw Manuniverse. Part One confirmed that notion by showcasing the terrible strength of the Darkness Devil, whose nonchalant violence the main cast escaped only because Makima was impervious to damage. In the most recent arc,the Aging Devil was also shown to be frighteningly powerful, stopping Yoru’s ‘bang’ attack in its tracks. Even a full-power Pochita struggled against the devil, until the character fans have begun dubbing ‘Cicada Man’ made himself known as the MVP.

The MVP of the Aging Devil Arc Was Never Even Given a Name

The Unnamed Man Is the Hero of the ‘Fight’ With Aging

No single character in theChainsaw Manuniverse is capable of defeating a Primal Devil, which would mean that whatever plan the group came up with for dealing with Aging would have to have been a team effort. Surprisingly, though, the character with the most critical role in the victory was one with no name. A resident of Aging’s world for decades, ‘Cicada Man’ greeted Asa and Denji by wrapping himself around a tree while imitating the screeching sound of a cicada.

Chainsaw Man Embraces a Shocking Cliffhanger That Introduces One Character’s… Clone?!

Chainsaw Man is well into the climactic battle with the Aging Devil, and the most recent chapter has introduced yet another twist no one saw coming.

Feeling betrayed by the Primal Devil for bringing a person like Denji to the quiet domain, however,he leaped from Pochita’s mouth, grabbing Aging and pulling him inside. This power move led to the contract that saw the group escape the wrath of the Aging Devil. And shockingly, for a Fujimoto story, the unnamed man escaped the conflict unharmed and was shown working construction at the end of chapter #190, titled “To Their Respective Worlds”.

Chainsaw Man Is Set to Embark on Its Next Adventure

The Return to Normalcy Will Likely Not Be a Peaceful One for Asa and Denji

Though ‘Cicada Man’ was able to escape the events ofChainsaw Man’s most recent arc with little lasting consequence, the same cannot be said about the series' dual protagonists. Denji lost his family to Barem and the cartoonishly evil Chainsaw Man church, while Asa lost both her arms in the fight with Pochita, which have since been replaced with weapons of war. Regardless of where the series ventures off to next, neither character will be in a healthy state of mind to handle new obstacles thrown their way.

Chainsaw ManPart Twois undeniably weirder than its preceding section, but it also features a much more nuanced vision of the cold world its characters are forced to contend with. Attempting to predict the events of a Tatsuki Fujimoto mangais about as useful as reading its pages backwards, but before anything else of note can happen within the story, there are hordes of pseudo-Chainsaw Men needing to be dealt with. Upcoming chapters will surely add some context to the absurd events of the recent arc as the series continues marching onward.
