With the July 04, 2025, release ofJustice League Unlimited#1by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Tamra Bonvillain, and Ariana Maher fast approaching, Waid sat down with AIPT Comics to share what fans can expect from the highly anticipated series. While the interview was packed with exciting teasers and clarifications about the series' direction, one standout revelation focused on the future team-ups between Diana and Clark.
Waid described their dynamic, saying, “Superman is the heavy hitter, but, in the field, Wonder Woman is the general.”However, his insights delve much deeper, offering a more nuanced view of the team dynamics between the Man of Steel and the Amazon Warrior.

AIPT: Has there been a character that you found to be the heart of the Justice League so far?
Mark Waid: Not so far. Part of that’s cause I’ve been playing through with a bunch of a different heroes. But, I would look to Superman and Wonder Woman as a good team. Superman as the heavy hitter, but, in the field, Wonder Woman is the general. Wonder Woman is the one calling the shots. Not that Superman is under her in any sense, you know, on a power level or on a stature level, but she’s just the military mind you need in the field.

In the interview, AIPT posed an intriguing question to Mark Waid: had he identified a particular character as the heart ofthis version of the Justice League? It’s a valid curiosity, given that this iteration of the League includes all of Earth’s heroes, rather than the usual select few A-listers. With such a vast roster, it’s only natural for fans to wonder if one hero might emerge as the standout. Waid, however, responded that no single character has taken on the role of the team’s heart. Instead, he highlighted a specific duo: Wonder Woman and Superman.
According to Waid, Superman and Wonder Woman shine as“a good team,”with Clark embodying the role of the heavy hitter while Diana acts as the general,“the one calling the shots.”He clarified that this dynamic isn’t a reflection of hierarchy—Superman isn’t subordinate to Wonder Woman in power or stature. Instead, it’s a recognition of their unique strengths, with Diana bringing the“military mind you need in the field.”This insight teases an engaging dynamic between the two heroes that fans can look forward to inJustice League Unlimited.

Waid’s decision to elevate Diana beyond her Amazon warrior status and into a general role is a brilliant reflection of the direction Tom King is taking her character inWonder Woman. As a new mother to her and Steve Trevor’s daughter, Elizabeth"Lizzie"Marston Prince, Diana now balances motherhood with her duties as a hero. King delves into this shift inWonder Woman#15, where Diana embraces a leadership role, guiding allies like Donna Troy, Cassie Sandsmark, Yara Flor, and Barbara"Cheetah"Minerva as they execute her plans. Hence, Waid’s portrayal ofWonder Womanas a strategic leader in her dynamic withSupermanand theJustice Leagueis a natural and powerful progression of her character.
