Darth Maul creator Iain McCaig has revealed his favoriteStar Warsstory, a recent addition to the Disney era that has caused the concept and storyboard artist to feel great hope for the franchise’s future. McCaig has long since been a part of the franchise, thanks to his work onStar Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menaceand the incredible contribution that is now the fantastic character of Darth Maul. Despite that, he’s stated that he hadn’t quite connected to the galaxy and its stories until recently, with one particularStar Warsstory.
Speaking toStarWars.com, McCaig described what it was like to watch the TV showAndorfor the first time, and how that story caused him to truly understand and become a part of the galaxy itself. “It was Andor that finally caught my heart and soul,” McCaig revealed. “Gone were the superheroes andfor the first time I felt how fragile and terrible it was to live in the time of the Empire, and how some people persevere despite everything, no matter the cost. That connected Star Wars to the real world for me and I fell in love with it.”

McCaig, inspired byAndor’s boots-on-the-ground approach, then went on about how he sees this story affectingStar Warsfrom here on out. “Now,” he began, “I see endless untouched possibilities for this saga, and I would love to be part of creating them.” While McCaig was proud of the work he did onThe Phantom Menaceand in creating something as impactful in the long-run as Darth Maul’s character, it took a story likeAndor’s for him to truly connect with the universe George Lucas created nearly fifty years ago.
Andor Has Brought New Life To Star Wars
It’s Completely Different From Anything Else
McCaig certainly isn’t the only one who feels this way aboutAndor. It’s vastly different from any otherStar Warsstory, in a way that certainly could have been controversial if it hadn’t been executed so flawlessly. From Tony Gilroy’s outstanding writing to theAndorcast’s breathtaking yet oh-so human performances,Andortruly does allow its audience to take a step into its world and understand exactly how it feels to be affected by the crushing, terrifying weight of tyranny, yet to still maintain the hope of making a change. It’s no wonder why McCaig had the same experience.
Every Star Wars TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
The first Star Wars TV show released back in the 1980s - so how do they all compare, from live-action to animation, from Clone Wars to Skeleton Crew?
It can be easy to look at a superhero like a Jedi and understand how they can bring down a system as massively tyrannical as theGalactic Empire. To see everyday people do it inAndor, however, truly ignites a very real spark of hope and inspiration. It teaches the lesson thatno one person is too small to create a change that can have a true impact against injustice.

Our Take On Iain McCaig’s Hopes For The Future
The Opportunities Are Endless, If Star Wars Takes Them
There is certainly lots of merit to McCaig’s optimistic hopes forStar Wars’future. While many may be discouraged by the wayStar Warshas looked as of late, mostly due to the way its own fandom has received new content in recent times,Andorstands apart as something different, an example of what’s still possible. WithAndorseason 2on the way,Star Warsaudiences will hopefully be reminded of this, and they will take on McCaig’s same optimism. There’s so much room inStar Warsfor exploration, should the franchise simply let themselves discover it.
