Married At First Sight’spanel of experts, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Dr. Pia Holec, and Pastor Cal Roberson, haven’t matched couples successfully for seasons, leading me to believe they’ll be fired after the current season.WhileMarried At First Sightseason 18is just getting underway, a layer of drama has already made it clear that the experts haven’t been working well together. Throughout the last six seasons ofMarried At First Sight, the experts have struggled to match couples successfully, with only two matches making it through the experiment, choosing each other on Decision Day, and staying happily married afterward.
WhileMarried At First Sightis, at its core, an experiment, viewers have gotten the sense that the experts aren’t doing their jobs well. With sofewMAFSmatches making it through the experimentand into the real world choosing each other in the last several seasons, many have been struggling to feel confident in the fact that way the experts have been working together. Though each of theMAFSexperts has their own sense of expertise, it’s clear that they aren’t working well as a group, and haven’t been able to navigate their dynamic, meaninga change is in order.

The MAFS Experts History On The Show
Although theMarried At First Sightexperts have been struggling together, they’ve each had different journeys on the show.Dr. Pepper is the longest-reigning expert, appearing in the series from the very beginning. Starting off onMarried At First Sightseason 1, Dr. Pepper is a sociologist who has expertise in relationships and human behavior. While she’s appeared in every season ofMarried At First Sight,Dr. Pepper wasn’t a part ofMAFS Second ChancesorMAFS Honeymoon Island, instead only appearing on the standard seasons of the show. While she’s been the longest-running expert,Dr. Pepper doesn’t work alone.

Pastor Cal has been part of the show sinceMAFSseason 5, when he joined in with Dr. Pepper and some pastMAFSexperts. A pastor and marriage counselor, Pastor Cal has adifferent approach to relationships than Dr. Pepper, which helps provide an entirely different perspective for the participants. While the pair has gone through several seasons together, they were only joined by the newest expert, Dr. Pia, in the last few years. Joining in duringMarried At First Sightseason 16, Dr. Pia is a psychotherapist and sex therapist who has been trying new strategies with the couples.

It’s Obvious MAFS Needs An Expert Overhaul
Things Haven’t Been Working Out
Althoughthe experts have been doing their best with the circumstances, the majority of the seasons they’ve been together, they have struggled to create couples who last. While the earlier seasons ofMarried At First Sightlikely had a little less pressure on the couples due to a lack of social media and fans having less access to the stars of the show, there were issues within the marriages from the start. Though the success rate was higher, the experiment was conducted a bitdifferently in the earlier seasons ofMAFS.As things have changed, so has the success rate.
With theMarried At First Sightexperts struggling to make lasting matches with the participants who have been applying to the show in the last few years, it’s clear that something is going on with the current group. While the experts have been doing their best to work together successfully for the last several seasons, their dynamics appear to be skewed. The experts may have good intentions with their matchmaking, but their skills and abilities together have left a lot to be desired in recent seasons. At this point,I think the experts need to go through a complete overhaul.

How The Show Could Move On Without The Current Experts
The Show Would Change Considerably
Although things would be incredibly different withtheMarried At First Sightexperts goneand new experts joining the team, I think the show would be better for it. With new experts come new fields of thought, ways of matchmaking, and styles of therapeutic intervention. The new team ofMAFSexperts would need to figure out how to move forward in their matchmaking together, andwould likely take some time to discover the style that works for them, but if the chemistry between them worked well, the group should be able to do betterthan the currentMAFSexpert panel.
Married At First Sight’sexpert panelwould go through some changes if the expert panel shifted, but it would be able to recover quickly andpotentially make some incredible matches with fresh points of view. The series would be able to implement different philosophies, and potentially expand the ways viewers see the couples being counseled through their marriages. Despite knowing that the current panel ofMarried At First Sightexperts has had success in the past, implementing new experts would be the right move for the longevity of the series.

Married At First Sight
Cast
Based on the Danish version of the series, Married at First Sight is a reality show/social experiment that gives singles a chance to find a lifelong partnership with one particular caveat: they must agree to marry a stranger arranged the moment they meet. Experts provide counseling and guidance as they help couples navigate their new marriage with their unknown partner and highlight the journey of the newlyweds from wedding to honeymoon to beginning their new lives together. At the end of eight weeks, couples will decide to stay married or divorce.
