Summary
I know howAvengers: Doomsdayshould start in order to make the best out of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga going forward. For years, many were expecting the fifth installment in theAvengersfranchise to center around Kang the Conqueror. Given what transpired with theMCU’s Kang actor Jonathan Majors, rumors were raised about recasting the character. Instead, Marvel decided to alter thelist of upcoming Marvel moviescompletely. While I am okay with this, there are a few plot threads that I think need resolving so that the refocused plot ofAvengers 5can be fully realized.
The new plot in question comes in the form ofAvengers: Doomsday’s exciting story. Undoubtedly the biggest shock I experienced at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 was the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will return to the MCU as Doctor Doom in the two upcomingAvengersmovies, officially confirmingKang’s Marvel replacement as the Multiverse Saga’s villain. Although this update was equal parts exciting and bewildering to me, I nonetheless have faith in the Russo Brothers as MCU directors. That being said, I know howAvengers: Doomsdayshould start to tie up any loose ends.

Avengers: Doomsday Should Start With Doom Killing The Council Of Kangs
Marvel’s Previous Villain Needs Dispatching For Good
The loose end in question is the Council of Kangs, established as the primary villains of the Multiverse Saga inAnt-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s end-credit scene. At the end of the film, a collection of the strongest Kang the Conqueror variants gathered to address the threat the Avengers pose to their plan. This seemingly set the stage for what was supposed to beAvengers: The Kang Dynasty, though Marvel has obviously had cause to change their plans of late.
Pivoting the events ofAvengers 5toward Doom makes sense, especially given the set-up ofAvengers: Secret Wars’story. However, it would be unwise of Marvel to do so without addressing what happened to the Council of Kangs. As such, I think the best way to openAvengers: Doomsdayis to put audiences in the point-of-view of RDJ’s Doctor Doom, establishing his backstory and his plan to dominate the multiverse. This should end - ironically at the beginning ofAvengers: Doomsday -with Doom decimating the Council of Kangs, removing the prior Multiverse Saga villain once and for all.

Avengers: Secret Wars: Release Date, Plot Details & Everything We Know
The culmination of phases 4, 5, and 6 of the MCU will be in Avengers: Secret Wars. Here’s everything to know about the sixth Avengers movie.
Avengers 5 Beginning With Doom Would Repeat Marvel’s Best Infinity War Trick
Doom’s Rampage Would Emulate Thanos In The Best Way
IfAvengers: Doomsdaybegan with Doom killing the Council of Kangs, it would be a repeat of Marvel’s great storytelling trick fromAvengers: Infinity War. The latter movie began with Thanos attacking the Asgardian ship from the end ofThor: Ragnarok. Not only did Thanos' first extended MCU scene detail how he had killed 50% of the Asgardians, a powerful race of people, but it also had him defeating Hulk with ease, subduing Thor with minimal effort, and killing Loki without breaking a sweat.
By pitting Thanos against the most powerful characters in the entire MCU,Avengers: Infinity Warimmediately set the tone for just how strong Thanos was. This went a long way to demonstrating his threat level and making him the best MCU villain. IfAvengers: Doomsdayhas Doom murdering the Council of Kangs, this will have the same effect. It would give the film the distinctly villainous POV thatInfinity Warhad through Thanos, all while solidifying Doom as a threat worthy of the Avengers' time by dispatching their previous greatest villain with minimal effort in a potentially awesome action sequence.
