This incredibleStar Warstheory reveals precisely how Natalie Portman could return inStar Warsmovies and TV shows, and it’s all to do with one villain many are already expecting to see inAhsokaseason 2. At present,Ahsokaseason 2 is one of only two confirmedupcomingStar WarsTV shows. Perhaps because there are so few, audiences have already begun speculating about what the season could include, even asupdates aboutAhsokaseason 2have revealed it’s still in the early stages.
One pressing question has been who will be returning in the show, meaning not only thecast ofAhsokaseason 1but also other potential actors such as Ewan McGregor, who is rumored to be playing some sort of role in the new season of the show. Now, much more shockingly,Natalie Portman is also rumored to be returning toStar WarsinAhsokaseason 2, but it may not be the return of Padmé Amidala. Instead, one incredible fan theory suggests Portman could become one of the most terrifying villains in the entire franchise.

Most Viewers Are Assuming We’re Getting A Young Padmé Amidala
The Rumors Suggest A Clone Wars Story Could Be Coming
Because of the rumors that Natalie Portman is returning toStar Wars, many are assuming that this will mean a Clone Wars flashback, similar to the one seen inAhsokaseason 1. Obviously, Padmé can’t return as a Force ghost, butAhsokaseason 2 could employthe World Between Worldsagain, perhaps having Anakin confront what he did to her inStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. While the World Between Worlds flashback scenes were some of the best parts ofAhsokaseason 1, though, this might feel a bit like an old trick if used again.
Natalie Portman’s Critically Acclaimed Murder Mystery Shows The Best Way To Bring Her Back To Star Wars
Padme Amidala’s return in Star Wars is heavily rumored to be in the works, and this 2024 TV series starring Natalie Portman may be the key.
There could be something much more creative in store forAhsokaseason 2, however, that would still make thisthe ultimate prequel trilogy reunion. Yes,Star Warshas proven its willingness to de-age prequel trilogy actors (both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen inObi-Wan Kenobiand Christensen again inAhsoka), but one thrilling and terrifying possibility could mean that isn’t necessary. Natalie Portman could return toStar Warsas an entirely new character, and the twist would make perfect sense.

There’s Another Horrifying Star Wars Theory About Natalie Portman’s Return
One Of Star Wars' Most Terrifying Villains Could Be On The Way
There has already been plenty of speculation that the terrifyingStar WarsvillainAbeloth could be coming inAhsokaseason 2. Abeloth has yet to enterStar Warscanon, but the path has certainly been laid for exactly that. Abeloth was linked to the Mortis Gods in Legends, andthe Mortis Gods have become increasingly important, especially in Ahsoka Tano’s story.
Mortis Gods Explained: Star Wars History, Powers, Planet & Importance
The Mortis gods are some of Star Wars’ most powerful Force-wielders, and Dave Filoni is using them to unite The Clone Wars, Rebels, and now Ahsoka.
Ahsoka first encountered the Mortis Gods inStar Wars: The Clone Wars, when she, Anakin, and Obi-Wan crash-landed on the planet Mortis. The three Jedi then faced a series of daunting trials, which put them face-to-face with the Father, the Son, and the Daughter. Ultimately, this even ended in Ahsoka’s death, although the last of the Daughter’s life force was used to save Ahsoka’s life. The Daughter’s convor then appeared inStar Wars, seemingly as Ahsoka’s protector.

TheAhsokaseason 1 endingsolidified that the Mortis Gods will continue to affect Ahsoka’s life, as Baylan Skoll was shown on a quest related to the Mortis Gods on Peridea in the finale. This seems to signal the Mortis Gods are coming inAhsokaseason 2 in some capacity, and this may include Abeloth, ‘the Mother.’ Abeloth was originally not a Mortis God; she was a mortal who aided the Mortis God family.
Baylan Skoll was shown on a quest related to the Mortis Gods on Peridea in the finale.
Out of a fear of losing her family, she bathed in the Font of Power and the Pool of Knowledge, which made her immortal but also twisted her into something evil: Abeloth. The Mortis Gods had to imprison her in the end, and there’s speculation thatPeridea may be the very prison in which Abeloth is being held. This sets up perhaps the most incredible return possible for Natalie Portman as Abeloth herself.
Natalie Portman’s Abeloth Would Be A Terrifying Enemy
This Would Be The Perfect Role For Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman returning as Abeloth would be even better than her returning as Padmé. Yes, I would love to see a Clone Wars flashback again, and I’m even among the viewers who hope a live-action Clone Wars-era show is coming. Getting to see Portman return as a villain would be so much more thrilling, though, and it would make for an incredible narrative arc.
If Portman was Abeloth, then she could be taking on the appearance of Padmé specifically to devastate Anakin (who is confirmed to currently be a Force ghost on Peridea) and potentially even horrify Luke. While Luke isn’t currently confirmed to be inAhsokaseason 2, given his appearances inThe MandalorianandThe Book of Boba Fett, this doesn’t seem off the table. It would be absolutely crushing for Luke to finally see his mother but to see her in this context—and it’s exactly the kind of brand-new story arc that I would celebrate.

Of course, all of this is speculative at present. Neither Natalie Portman nor, at this point, many of these other characters are confirmed to be appearing inAhsokaseason 2. Nevertheless, I am genuinely hopeful thatAhsokaseason 2 will shockStar Warsaudiences and bring Natalie Portman back not as Padmé Amidala but as Abeloth.
