The Wandering Wight is an optional boss you might find inBlack Myth: Wukongand attempt to beat as you explore map areas in Chapter 1. This Yaoguai Chief enemy is extremely challenging since you don’t have many skills or abilities when you encounter it early in the game. This opponent drops an item that yields a new transformation, so you’ll want to defeat the boss at some point.

Unlike theWhiteclad Noble boss inBlack Myth: Wukong, the Wandering Wight can be skipped for a time until you grow stronger. The first time you see theWandering Wight, you might be transformed into a cicada and can easily pass the Yaoguai without it noticing you. However, you’ll want to return to this enemy before reaching Chapter 2 due to the rewards it drops when defeated.

Black Myth: Wukong Review: The Soulslike Action Hype Train Is A Little Off-Rails

Despite the exceptional qualities of Black Myth: Wukong, the souls-like RPG has some necessary improvements to make, for a truly immersive experience.

Where To Find The Wandering Wight

Explore The Forests Of Black Wind Mountain

The Wandering Wight blocks a pathin the very first area of the Black Wind Mountain regionyou explore after the game’s prologue. As you start from the Outside the Forest Keeper’s Shrine, you could run into the Wight as you venture deeper into the Forest of Wolves. A few basic enemies can be fought along the way to this boss, but try not to engage with too many foes so you may start the fight with full health.

Try toexplore many of the areas of the forestto see what items you can get before facing the Wandering Wight. Defeating the basic enemies here, who reset when you return to a Shrine, will help you earn Sparks to level up. Just open the"Self-Advance"tab when resting at a Shrine to improve your stats or make abilities stronger by spending Sparks you get from farming enemies close to where the Wight resides.

How To Prepare Against The Wandering Wight

Gain A Transformation And Unlock A Strong Ability

Without a plan, the Wandering Wight will be nearly impossible to beat with your base stats, skills, and equipment. You need to at leastcraft some gear using Sparksgathered from enemies to give yourself higher defenses while fighting this boss. There are other secrets in theextensive map areas ofBlack Myth: Wukongthat you may also investigate to gain advantages against the Wight.

Heading left from the Wandering Wight’s location will lead you to another Yaoguai Chief optional boss named Guangzhi.Defeat Guangzhi to gain a transformation, an ability that allows you to turn into the beaten boss for a limited time. While fighting in this alternate form, you don’t take damage to your main health bar, but instead only have your transformation timer reduced as you get hit.

Black Myth: Wukong freezing the Wandering Wight optional boss with Immobilize spell

Thankfully, the Wandering Wight does not have any attacks that cause status ailments, such as Shock orPoison inBlack Myth: Wukong.

This acts as a buffer to avoid taking damage from the Wandering Wight, while also giving you a chance to deal higher damage as Guangzhi. It’s also a good idea tohave the spell Immobilize unlockedbefore fighting the Wight. This spell may consume a lot of mana at the early stages ofBlack Myth: Wukong, but it gives you a chance to freeze the Wight for a short time during the battle.

How To Defeat The Wandering Wight

Recognize Attack Patterns And Time Your Staggers Right

One of the best strategies for beating the Wandering Wight is toland heavy attacks against the bosswhenever you’re able to. Although you have to time these as the boss recovers from its attacks, striking the boss with a heavy attack from Smash stance will stagger itfor a short time. This does consume a Focus Point, so you’ll have to build up light attacks to be able to do this move again.

The finishing move of your light attack combo chain deals the same amount of stagger against the Wandering Wight as a heavy attack from Smash stance. Dodging cancels this combo, so only try to do it when you have perfectly dodged one of the boss' moves.

Start the fight with this heavy attack before the boss' aggro has turned to you for free damage.Follow up a heavy strike by casting Immobilizeto freeze the boss in place, allowing to deal free damage without retaliation as well. This small combo should give you enough time to build up another Focus Point, which can be spent immediately on another heavy attack from Smash stance.

How Stances Work In In Black Myth: Wukong

Combat in Black Myth: Wukong heavily revolves around staff stances, making it crucial to understand how each one works and how to upgrade them.

At this point, things become tricky as the boss begins to fight back. Try toland enough heavy attacks to knock the boss over, where it will thrash on the ground helplessly as you attack it some more. Save your mana for another Immobilize at the perfect opportunity as you wait for an opening between the boss' deadly attack patterns.

How To Counter

Swinging Fists

The Wandering Wight will pull back its arm before swinging its fist at you in a quick combo of strikes.

Immobilize the boss and use your full light attack combo to break the Wight’s combo when he unfreezes. If you are out of mana, simply dodge behind the boss.

Stone Clap

Extending both arms, the Wandering Wight slams his hands together in front of it.

Dodge backward or run away far enough to not get hit by the large hurtbox of this attack.

Raising Stomp

The Wandering Wight raises one of its legs into the air. It will stomp that foot into the ground, then follow up the attack by either stomping with its other foot or swinging at you with an arm. Sometimes it will also run toward you for a follow-up jumping kick or stomp after the initial attack.

Recognize the first foot raise and dash away from the boss. Then, recognize which follow-up it is using and dodge accordingly.

Earthquake

Raising its arms into the air, the Wandering Wight slams its fists into the ground, causing a large AoE shockwave around the area. Multiple, delayed earthquakes happen while the boss' fists are still charging this move in the ground.

Dash far away from the boss and wait to punish this move after the last earthquake AoE.

Palm Blast

The Wandering Wight shoots a beam of energy from its outstretched palm when you are far away from it.

Wait for the boss' right hand to raise to do this attack, then dodge to one side horizontally as fast as you can.

As you can see in the above video by YouTube creatorEsoterickk, the AoE attacks from the Wandering Wight can be chained from any of its basic physical strikes. This makes the boss hard to predict, sostay patient and waituntil the boss is recovering at the end of its attack chains. As long as you don’t waste your Immobilize and heavy attack chances, you should be able to take this boss down eventually.
