Grand Theft Auto 6may have just been confirmed for PC by an anticheat update toGTA Online. The update celebrated the 11-year anniversary ofGTA 5and was implemented to reduce the widespread cheating in the game. “Project Americas” was the alleged codename forGTA 6and its appearance on this PC update appears to lend credence to the possibility that developerRockstar Games is preparing for a PC release of the upcomingGTAgame.GTA 5notably took over a year to come to PC after its initial console release on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2013.

GTA 6 On PC At Launch Would Be First For The Franchise

It Would Break A Decades-Long Porting Tradition

The firstGrand Theft Autogame ever published was created for the PC, while the second released on PC first and then ported to the PlayStation the following year. Since then, every newGTAgame has neglected its PC origins and come out exclusively for consoles on launch.

Each entry has taken longer and longer to be ported to PC over the 25 years sinceGTA 2’srelease.GTA 3came to PC eight months after it was released on consoles,GTA 4took seven months, andGTA 5took over a year. If the next game in the franchise follows the same pattern, thenfans wouldn’t expectGTA 6to arrive on PC until at least 2027 or 2028.

The appearance of “Americas” on the new anti-cheatGTA Onlineupdate may imply thatthe wait for a PC port will actually be shorter. It’s also likely that when it does release,GTA 6and its presumed online components will be partnered with BattlEye to provide anti-cheat protection and hopefully address the issue before it even has a chance to start.
