Although CBS’Ghostsis already a success, the news of its upcoming spinoffs proves that the franchise could produce a legendary crossover in the next few years. The British sitcomGhostsbegan in 2019. The comedy follows Allison and Mike, a couple who inherit a mansion from a distant relative. After Allison has a near-death experience, she gains the ability to speak to the mansion’s many mismatched ghostly inhabitants. The BBC show proved such a hit that it spawned an American remake of the same name in 2021. Theghosts of CBS’sGhostsare different, but the premise is the same.
Ghosts Season 4’s Returning Character Can Revive A Forgotten Thor Storyline
Ghosts season 4 promises to bring back a recurring character who brings out another side of Thor, even though season 3 forgot about this hero.
In CBS’s version, Rose McIver’s Sam is the new homeowner who gains the ability to see, hear, and speak to the house’s ghosts, while Utkarsh Ambudkar’s Jay is her partner.Ghostsseason 4arrives soon, and the show’s ratings success means the sitcom’s return is highly anticipated. CBS’sGhostsmanaged to maintain the appeal of the original British show while changing enough plot and character details to feel fresh. As such, it should come as no surprise that not one, but two more remakes are in the works. This sets up an incredible crossover between every version of the show.

Ghosts' Upcoming Remakes Explained
The CBS Sitcom Is Getting An Australian Remake And Will Gain A German Redo
BBC Australia recently confirmed that an Australian version ofGhostsis currently in development, with the sitcom replicating the successful formula of both earlier shows. This time, Kate and Sean are the couple who discover that the manor they inherited is occupied by a range of ghosts from throughout their country’s colorful history. AsGhostsseason 4’s Jay twistprepares to upend the show’s setup, BBC Australia’s version ofGhostswill stick to the script while the series establishes its own cast of characters. Meanwhile, a thirdGhostsremake is also set to arrive in the near future.
Germany’s take on Ghosts continues to utilize the winning formula laid out by the original BBC show.

According to theBBC, BBC Studios Germany, ARD Mediathek, and WDR announced a German adaptation ofGhostsback in June 2024. This version of the show will see Cristina do Rego’s Emma suffer a near-death experience and gain the ability to see the ghosts that inhabit the mansion she just inherited alongside Benito Bause’s Felix. Germany’s take onGhostscontinues to utilize the winning formula laid out by the original BBC show and, as a result, the four versions of the series will likely feature a similar tone and style. This means that the sitcoms could set up a massive crossover.
A Ghosts Crossover Could Be Truly Epic With Multiple Versions Involved
Three (Or Four) Different Versions Of The Same Sitcom Could Crossover At Once
Since there will soon be four versions of the series,England’s originalGhosts, Germany and Australia’s remakes, and CBS’sGhostscould all crossover in the future. Until now,Ghostshasn’t crossed over with its British counterpart, but the temptation to set up this event will become markedly more intense as the franchise spawns further spinoffs. After all, it is one thing for David Brent to appear in the US version ofTheOffice, but it would have been a historic event if the sitcom brought together four different versions of the same series in one episode.
Any two versions ofGhostshave a reasonably easy setup for a crossover if their main characters were to take a holiday to the other country and stay in the show’s B&B setting. However, it’s harder to see how the shows would get around one unfortunate technical issue. According to both the US and UK versions ofGhosts, the ghosts can’t leave the grounds of their respective houses. They have unfinished business in that location and, if they resolve it, they are “Sucked off” into the afterlife. As such, it might be tricky for the ghosts to go international.

How Likely Is A Ghosts Crossover?
CBS’s Ghosts Showrunner Shut Down Speculation About A BBC Crossover
In an interview withTVLine, CBS’sGhostsshowrunner Joe Port admitted he was unsure about a potential crossover with the British version of the show. Port said that Allison and Mike meeting Sam and Jay felt “Too similar, or something,” and he’s not wrong. Especially whenGhostsseason 4’s Jay twistpromises to let Sam’s partner also see the show’s ghosts, it would be very strange for Sam and Jay to meet a couple from across the Atlantic who lived through the same specific, surreal circumstances as them. However, the Australian and German remakes could help here.
Ghostsseason 4 premieres on CBS on Thursday, August 05, 2025.
Allison and Mike meeting Sam and Jay could be too silly to be believable, butall four versions ofGhosts’ main characters meeting each other would be absurd enough to work. Two women who both inherited houses and gained the ability to speak to the dead via a near-death experience is unlikely, but four women from different countries who all experienced this and then happened to cross paths by pure coincidence is comically surreal. This setup would allow all four versions ofGhoststo poke fun at their over-the-top shared premise.
