Galactus Will Soon Be Invading the MCU inFantastic Four: First Steps

On the Eve of Galactus' MCU Debut, Marvel is Curbing His Powers

Galactus is one of Marvel’s most powerful characters, and his only peers are entities such as the Living Tribunal and the One-Above-All. Introduced during Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s epic 1960sFantastic Fourrun, Galactus came to Earth, ready to devour it. The Fantastic Four barely turned Galactus back, and even though he swore to attack Earth again, he has indeed done so occasionally. Galactus has been translated into live-action, albeit not very well, in 2007’sFantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. He will appear in this year’sFirst Stepsfilm, set in the MCU.

Galactus’ admission that his essence is warp and woof with Earth-616’s universe is new to the character’s lore, and it raises many questions about the Planet Killer, namely what happens if he stays away from his native universe for too long.

While fans eagerly await Galactus’ arrival in the MCU, Marvel is making the curious move to limit his power. If Galactus had limits to his powers before, they had never been explored or defined, which makes his confession inUltraman x Avengers#4 shocking. Galactus’ admission that his essence is warp and woof with Earth-616’s universe is new to the character’s lore, and it raises many questions about the Planet Killer, namely what happens if he stays away from his native universe for too long. It also provides a new wayto defeat Galactus as well.

Galactus and the Infinity Stones Now Share Something in Common

Will the MCU Make This Change to Galactus' Powers As Well?

This new revelation about Galactus’ powers gives the Planet Eater something in common with another powerful force in the cosmos: the Infinity Stones. Galactus has tasted the power of the Infinity Stones, most notably in 1991’sInfinity Gauntletminiseries. Much like Galactus, the Infinity Stones only work in their native universes—they are cheap gems anywhere else in the multiverse. Both Galactus and the Infinity Stones channel serious cosmic powers, with the ability to manipulate time and space. With this in mind, the idea that Galactus’ powers are tied to his native universe suddenly makes more sense.

Galactus Is a Beast, But Marvel Knows 10 Ways to Destroy the Planet Eater

While the Devourer of Worlds may be an all-powerful cosmic god, his strength isn’t infallible. Even gods can be brought down, Galactus included.

Only a shadow of Galactus appeared in theFantastic Four: First Stepstrailer, but it was enough to begin the hype for his entrance into the MCU. Rumors state thatFirst Stepswill be set on an alternate Earth in the MCU. The Infinity Stones Thanos used inAvengers: Endgamedid not work outside of it, as seen inLokiseason one. It is possible this new revelation about Galactus’ powers is an attempt to get ahead of a change theMCUmay be introducing. Even though he has been nerfed by Marvel,Galactusis still quite powerful.
