The upcomingSupermanmovie will be a new beginning for theDCU, and director James Gunn has already promised it won’t be too long before the trailer will be shared with the world. James Gunn started working with Warner Bros. on DC movies back in 2018. His work onThe Suicide Squadled to the popular writer and director being given the opportunity to further expand these characters with the showPeacemaker, before he was announced as the new co-CEO of DC Studios in 2022, and tasked with reinventing the entire DCEU.

As a result, Gunn laid plans to start over and build a DCU from the ground up, and just like the DC Comics, this meantbeginning with Superman. Themovie was announced soon after Gunn was hired, and in 2025, the film will finally be released to kick off the theatrical branch of the DCU. However, outside a few posters and images, the movie is still largely a mystery in terms of what will be introduced alongside David Corenswet’s Superman.

The Superman Movie Trailer Isn’t Complete Yet

James Gunn Is Actively Working On The Superman Trailer

James Gunn is well-known for how active he is on social media. Throughout much of his career, Gunn has been one of the most vocal creatives in terms of responding to fans and answering burning questions. This has led to many minor details being revealed, and the director is happy to connect with the fans in this way. And, in true Gunn fashion, when it comes to the trailer forSuperman, the most clear andup-to-date details about it are available through his public social media channels.

What do you want to see the most from James Gunn’s Superman movie?

James Gunn’s Superman movie will be the first live-action project set in the brand-new DC Universe. Starring David Corenswet as a brand-new Man of Steel, there’s quite a bit of anticipation for this upcoming DC film. Keeping that in mind, I’m most looking forward to seeing Corenswet’s take on Kal-El, who looks to be quite vibrant and full of optimism, and the same goes for Rachel Brosnahan as the newest actor to play intrepid reporter Lois Lane.

Thanks to this active social presence, Gunn revealed in late October 2024 that the trailer for Superman is not yet complete (viaThreads). However, despite the trailer not being complete, thedirector mentioned that he had worked on the trailer that weekend. This evidently means that the trailer will likely be released fairly soon. Thefilming forSupermanwrapped in late July 2024, which means the editing and post-production sides are well under way. But a trailer would not be released or even worked on too far in advance of the film being in a fairly finished state.

Superman’s Marketing Campaign Is Going To Be Huge

While the trailer is currently in the process of being made, Gunn also revealed that it wouldn’t be too long before it would be released to the public. While attending NYCC for the upcoming DCU animated series,Creature Commandos,Gunn discussed some details about the upcomingSupermanmovie, and the possibility of a trailer being dropped. Of course, it’s possible that fans could haveexpected a trailer forSupermanto be shared at NYCC, which highlights why Gunn was so careful to say that the trailer was not made yet, but he clearly indicated the plan was to release it before too long.

Since the movie is set to be released in theaters from June 24, 2025, it would make sense to begin the big marketing push roughly three months before the film. This ensures they can build momentum. However, teasers for big movies like this have been known to release sooner. In fact, Kathleen Finch, the WBD Networks Executive, recently commented thatthe marketing campaign forSupermanis going to be huge, comparing it toBarbie’smarketing with many collaborations planned (viaVariety). If that’s the case, Superman’s first trailer could be released before the end of 2024 to give time for the huge marketing campaign to take hold.

What Could Be In The Superman Movie Trailer

The First Look At The DCU Superman Universe

Obviously, a trailer’s job is to build excitement about a movie, not to give it all away. Already, there are plenty of details about the Superman movie that have been announced, including casting for several central characters, the inclusion of different heroes and villains, so it makes sense that all of these previously announced characters can appear in the trailer. That means Lex Luthor can be shown, therelationship between Clark Kent and Lois, and evenKrypto the Superdog.

Which upcoming DCU project are you most excited for?

The new DC Universe from DC Studios' James Gunn and Peter Safan is about to begin with Creature Commandos as its first show at the end of 2024 and Superman as the first movie in 2025. While I’m very excited to see what Superman has in store, I think I’m most excited to see Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and how it will adapt such an iconic story, as well as Lanterns which is set to give Hal Jordan a second shot on-screen while also giving John Stewart his live-action debut.

However, the first trailer will likely provide more of a taster for the project, accompanied by an incredibly well-chosen song, as Gunn is prone to do for his movies. Characters like Mr Terrific and Green Lantern could also be seen in the trailer, as they are expected to have fairly significant parts in the movie. Beyond showing off the cast, the look, style and feel for the film, and presumably some dialogue to add a through narrative, the biggest moments of the film will likely be reserved for the actual release, but there is still plenty to get excited about inSupermanthat can make an appearance in the trailer.
