Cyberpunk 2077is a game that keeps giving, with update after update vastly improving the experience that was nearly perfect at launch, outside the obvious bugs and glitches. However, many believed that the support forCyberpunk 2077was over after the enormous game-changing 2.1 update. Fortunately, that isn’t the case, as CD Projekt Red had a few tricks left up its sleeve. In one of its now incredibly popular livestreams, it unveiled Update 2.2 and the slew of changes it brings.

While no update could surpass thesignificant changes of Update 2.1, many were excited to see what this unexpected update would bring to the game. For a lot of players, it doesn’t take much to get them to head back into Night City and start a whole new journey as V. However, for some, a new update would need to add something truly significant to incentivize them to jump back in. Luckily,Cyberpunk 2077’sUpdate 2.2 may not be huge, but it does add some highly requested features.

A Suprise New Update For The Four-Year-Old Game

The newCyberpunk 2077Update 2.2 is being referred to as the “Express Yourself” update asit is all about adding more customization options, improving the photo mode, and making cars more impressive than ever before. The full list ofpatch noteshas gone live, and there is quite a lot to get through. While it isn’t fixingCyberpunk 2077’sremaining issues, it will do a lot for those who are still adventuring around Night City and want more ways of customizing that experience.

The update was produced in collaboration with the French support studio Virtuos, which makes a lot of sense considering the majority of CD Projekt Red isworking on other projects, including the upcomingThe Witcher 4. During thelivestream, each feature was broken down by a handful of members from CD Projekt Red and Virtuos, including the Associate Game Director, Paweł Sasko. He gave a lot of insight into the new features, as well as why the patch exists in the first place, stating:

“I realized when working on the previous patches for Cyberpunk 2077, that it always worked well for our players when there was a consistent, cohesive thought behind the patch […] Pretty early we had this idea of, we would love to give our players a way to express themselves more in the world of Cyberpunk 2077.

The continued support forCyberpunk 2077is always amazing and proves it is one of the manygames that don’t deserve the hatethey’ve been getting for so long. Many of these features have been made with some facets ofCyberpunk 2077’scommunity in mind, especially its dedicated photo-mode fanbase, which has been requesting many much-needed features for a long time. Luckily, they and lots of otherplayers will enjoy the new update as it launches on July 29, 2025.

Players Can Customize More Cars Than Ever

The TwinTone System Lets Them Unlock New Colors

One of the biggest new changes toCyberpunk 2077in Update 2.2 is the ability to customize cars. Previously, players could use the Crystal Coat mechanic to alter the color of the Aerondight and Caliburn Rayfield cars. Now,cars from the brands Herrera, Quadra, Mizutani, and Villefort can also be customized, with players able to alter each part of the car, the hue and saturation of its colors, the headlight color, and even give it unique paint jobs.

These paint jobs can be purchased by scanning other cars using the TwinTone mechanic. Essentially, players can scan any car in Night City, purchase its color scheme, and then apply it to their car, including on the fly while driving. This is important asfans can now evade the police by changing their car’s color while being pursued. InCyberpunk 2077, it is referred to as a Vehicle Mismatch and will see the police disengage a lot quicker. However, if players get too close to cops, they’ll recognize them and continue their chase.

Players can only unlock the color schemes of cars that can currently be customized. Additionally, players cannot customize stolen cars and will only be able to change the color of cars that they have purchased and own.

In addition to these customization features, fans will be able to purchase 10 new cars from the Autofixer menu. These include eight cars from the base game and two fromPhantom Liberty- players need to ownPhantom Libertyto access those two. Finally,Johnny can now spawn randomly in the car next to the playerand will make remarks about their driving. While he won’t appear in main quests, he will every so often in the open world, helping to makeCyberpunk 2077one of themost immersive open-world games.

Photo Mode & Character Customization Has Been Improved

112 New Assets Have Been Added To The Character Customizer

Alongside the many improvements to vehicles, the photo mode has also had a number of significant tweaks. The entire UI has been completely overhauled by the team at Virtuos, making using it a far smoother experience overall. Additionally, players can use the drone mode to put the camera even further away from them, allowing for far more interesting shots that were never before thought possible. On top of that, one of themost requestedCyberpunk 2077featureshas been added, asit is now possible to disable collisions, allowing for impressive shots to happen from unnatural places.

Perhaps an even more significant change than the tweaks to the photo mode is the 112 new assets that have been added to the character creator.

On PC, players will be able to alter the aspect ratio of photos to create more dynamic photographs. Unfortunately, due to technical limitations, this is absent on consoles. However, all players can now spawn NPCs to be in their photos, including even Adam Smasher. Finally, players can see all of their photographs in a gallery and can then add them to their apartment via the new Smart Frames. So, any cool pictures of cats in Night City or just a great photo of V standing victorious on top of Smasher’s dead body can be hung proudly on V’s apartment wall.

Perhaps an even more significant change than the tweaks to the photo mode is the 112 new assets that have been added to the character creator. This includes new cyberware, eyes, makeup, nails, scars, and much more. They have been added withCyberpunk 2077’samazing worldbuildingin mind, so players can get nail art of their favorite corpos if they want. Additionally,a new randomizer has been added to the character creator to help players find the perfect look. Fans can change the slider from zero to 10, with the level of wild designs increasing the higher the scale is.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Needs To Take Inspiration From This Major Comic

Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel needs to up its game when it comes to side quests, and taking inspiration from a major comic book could help it excel.

Once players have found an aspect of their character that they like, they can lock it and continue to hit the randomize button until every feature has been chosen for them. It’s a great feature for those who are intimidated by the even bigger character customizer on offer. There is a lot coming toCyberpunk 2077in Update 2.2, especially for those who get heavily invested in the customization options in the game.
