Summary
The wizarding world’s famous seven-versus-seven, broomstick-bound sport is finally getting a fresh video game adaptation inHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions, and it’s bringing some iconicHarry Pottercharacters along with it. AfterHeadmaster Black canceled Quidditchfor the term inHogwarts Legacy, there’s been a noticeable niche that needs to be filled in the form of a dedicated Quidditch game.Quidditch Championsis just around the corner with its July 24, 2025, release date, and players will finally be able to take to the pitch as well-known competitors in the sport.
Quidditch Championsis intended to be a largely multiplayer experience, but each team will only have three players in what’s a bit of a curious turn for the fictional sport. Rather than every player taking on one of four roles, it appearseach player will play as a Chaser and another position concurrently, switching between the two at will and letting a bot take over the unoccupied space. It’s a bit unclear how this affects character selection, though, givenQuidditch Champions' emphasis on both iconic characters and customizable avatars.

Every Playable Character Confirmed For Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions (So Far)
Known Quidditch Players From The Harry Potter Series
There have so far been fiveHarry Pottercharacters confirmed as playable inQuidditch Champions:
Seeker
Ravenclaw
While these five have been explicitly named via a press release, the “Magic is in the Air” trailer uploaded to theHarry Potter: Quidditch ChampionsYouTube channel promises"many more" iconic characters will be available to play as or against. Curiously, when this line is said in the trailer, there is a generic crowd shot from theHarry Potterfilms showing Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood, and Neville Longbottom, none of whom were known Quidditch players. This doesn’t necessarily disqualify them from being playable, but it’s more likely that this is simply a way to keep the other characters completely secret.
It would appear thata character’s in-universe Quidditch position has no bearing on gameplay. For instance, Draco Malfoy only ever played Seeker for Slytherin (presumably because his father generously donated a set of brand-new Nimbus 2001s to the program), but in the above trailer, he can be seen holding a Beater’s bat. This is likely a gameplay concession, so players aren’t locked out of using their favorite character because of the position they select.

Other likely characters forQuidditch Championsto make playable include Fred and George Weasley, who were both Beaters for Gryffindor, Charlie Weasley, Seeker and Quidditch Captain before Harry’s time at Hogwarts, and Viktor Krum, Seeker for the Bulgarian National Quidditch Team who caught the Snitch in the 1994 Quidditch World Cup loss to Ireland. The four Hogwarts houses are likely to get a lot of attention via the game’s cosmetics, as evidenced by theQuidditch ChampionsDeluxe Editionalready including item packs for each house.
You Can Also Play As A Custom Character In Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions
Customizable Character With Many Cosmetic Options
While the inclusion of recognizableHarry Pottercharacters is sure to excite longtime fans,a major draw ofQuidditch Championsis the ability to create a custom character. While it doesn’t appear as sophisticated asHogwarts Legacy’s character creation, there seems to be a wealth of pre-set options players can mix and match to create their own quidditch player, from body type to head shape and hairstyle. There are also many cosmetic items to choose from, including accessories like glasses and hats, robes and other clothing items, and even broom type.
Keen-eyed viewers will spot a hilarious item in the “Magic is in the Air” trailer: a helmet that resembles the low-poly head of Hagrid fromHarry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stoneon the original PlayStation, a version of the character endearingly called Haggord.
While such cosmetic items have become the crux of monetization in many modern multiplayer games,Harry Potter: Quidditch Championshas committed to not featuring microtransactions. Every wearable item can seemingly be earned by simply playing the game at no extra cost. This is a refreshing surprise considering the game carries a $30 price tag, but is an even greater deal for PS4 and PS5 players who might tryQuidditch Championswhen it releases through PlayStation Pluson day one.
Quidditch was sorely missed inHogwarts Legacy, butQuidditch Championsappears to be, at least in part, making up for the omission with a rather thorough adaptation of the magical sport. The game’s decision to feature three-on-three multiplayer is a bit odd, but evaluation will have to wait until the game actually releases. Regardless, customizable characters are likely to take center stage inHarry Potter: Quidditch Champions, even though the inclusion of iconic characters from the franchise is a notable highlight.
