Everyone in Vox Machina is likable, which is why Prime Video’sThe Legend of Vox Machinaworks so well, but some members of the team are timelessly lovable. TheCritical Roleadaptation follows what may be one of the internet’s most popularDungeons & Dragonsplay web series. The adventuring party inCritical Roletranslates effortlessly to Vox Machina inThe Legend of Vox Machinaseason 3, with each member of the team having grown into their respective roles. This mercenary band is composed of Scanlan Shortholt, Pike Trickfoot, Grog Strongjaw, Percy de Rolo, Keyleth, Vex’ahlia Vessar, and Vax’ildan Vessar.
The 2022 adult animated show joined other fantasy shows likeThe Wheel of TimeandThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Poweron Amazon. TheD&Dseries can easily hold its own against these live-action releases, proving the potential ofD&Don TV and how suited it is to animation. It is probably the most successfulD&Dadaptation, bearing in mindDungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieveswas technically excellent but struggled at the box office. As such, viewers can look forward to the already-renewedLegend of Vox Machinaseason 4and more drama from each lovable mercenary.

8Trinket
Armored Bear
Trinket is not just likable, but lovable. However, as a non-talking member of Vox Machina, Trinket just hasn’t had enough moments that could position him as more likable than any one of the team’s incredibly funny and captivating humanoids. Trinket lives inside Vex’ahlia’s locket, which earns him his name. He was rescued by Vex in his infancy after she and Vax came across a scene of carnage that left Trinket sadly orphaned -Trinket is definitely sympathetic, as far as large brown bears go.
10 TV Shows You’ll Love If You Like Legend Of Vox Machina
Animation, fantasy, comedy, and adventure are all key parts of Legend of Vox Machina, and these TV shows have much in common with the series.
Trinket is also adorable, providing the show with the cute animal factor that makes it comforting as well as hilarious, inspiring, and sad.The Legend of Vox Machinais obviously aware of Trinket’s appeal, poking fun at the internet’s prioritization of cute animals before all else when the guards of Tal’Dorei left their posts to pet Trinket, who was more than happy to receive their affections. Trinket hasn’t been the star of fight scenes but offers a key supporting role, backing up Vex loyally when needed.

7Vex’ahlia Vessar
Half-Elf Ranger
Vex is one of Vox Machina’s most important members, leading it through thick and thin, but she lacks some of the dazzling humor of other characters.Vox Machina needs its balance and nuance, and would in no way be complete with Vexand her pragmatism. Vex’s cold and sarcastic approach is just as likable as Scanlan’s cheery one, in many ways, but the TV show brought out his hilarity and centered on it in a way that even theCritical Roleweb series couldn’t quite manage.
Vex is voiced by Laura Bailey inThe Legend of Vox Machina.

Vex has a huge heart, which is made clear through the show’s examination of her dark past and upbringing. Vex was sent to live with her elven father, where she faced racial prejudice for being a half-blood. This was an important thread for the show to bring out, successfully touching on real-world issues.Vex’s mother was killed by Thordak, one of the best fantasy villains on TV, setting her up to be intriguingly centralin driving Vox Machina’s fight against the dragons. Viewers can’t help but root for her.
6Keyleth Of The Air Ashari
Half-Elf Druid
Keyleth is relatable, from her lack of self-esteem to her remarkably true-to-life response to copious alcohol consumption. Keyleth’s vomiting inThe Legend of Vox Machinaseason 1 joked, at her expense, that she may be one ofthe weaker characters of Vox Machina. This hilarious opening made it clear that the show would pull no punches in its adult approach, andKeyleth remained awkward throughout, with her growing romance with Vax only serving to increase her appeal. From her freckles and complexion to her lack of confidence, Keyleth was sold in as a nerdy kind of outcast from the start.
If Keyleth is less lovable than her teammates in any way, it is probably only due to their originality being more striking in some way.

This is interesting, as it seems to be setting up a rise to power of sorts. While Grog and Percy may have appeared stronger than Keyleth at certain times in season 1,Keyleth is now on her way to embracing her powersmore fully. This character development makes Keyleth’s arc an important self-belief parable. If Keyleth is less lovable than her teammates in any way, it is probably only due to their originality being more striking in some way.
5Scanlan Shortholt
Gnome Bard
Even though Scanlan’s teammates may be incrementally more likable than him,Scanlan must be one of the most lovable characters of recent TV, which speaks to how well-written his teammates are.The Legend of Vox Machinapresents a ragtag band of unlikely accomplices, made all the better for their variety and flaws. This adventuring party is exemplary of whatDungeons & Dragonsis all about, and Scanlan is not the least of its successes, cracking more jokes than bones.
InCritical Role,Scanlan’s Hand seems to be a home brew spell based on Bigby’s Hand.
Scanlan’s giant purple hand is almost as lovable as Scanlan himself, offering up a fairly useful spell that transports Scanlan around and once cushioned a nasty fall. Scanlan’s main power seems to be in his bard status, belting out catchy numbers that have been a huge contributing factor inThe Legend of Vox Machina’ssuccess. EvenScanlan’s annoying habit of flirting when he should be doing almost anything else is lovable, but possibly knocks him down a peg from the appeal of the likes of Vax or Percy. However, this is the way it should be inThe Legend of Vox Machina. Scanlan’s growth is a highlight of the show.
4Percival De Rolo
Human Gunslinger
Percy is one of the most relatable and sympathetic characters ofThe Legend of Vox Machina. To use Marvel terms, Percy has the Iron Man appeal - he proves that heroes don’t need superpowers.Dungeons & Dragonsis full of magic users like wizards, clerics, and druids, butit isn’t often a human gunslinger as savage as Percival de Rolo turns up. He’s a unique character and an inspiration for Player Characters and in general, overcoming severe childhood trauma to find purpose, love, and acceptance.
Percival “Percy” Fredrickstein Von Musel Klossowski de Rolo III had the formative experience of seeing his family killed by the Briarwoods. This childhood experience led him to seek revenge throughout his life. The Briarwood arc was one of the most popular arcs of the originalCritical Rolecampaign series, and Percy was one of its most popular characters. Likewise, he shines in the show. When Percy’s tragic past isn’t being seriously dived into, his uptight nature provides one of the show’s key points of comic relief.
3Vax’ildan Vessar
Half-Elf Rogue
Vax’ildan is Vex’ahlia’s delightfully complex brother and is a major part of what makesThe Legend of Vox Machinaa well-writtenD&DTV show. Vax has the same tragic past and difficult upbringing that Vex has, and it makes him just as sympathetic as it makes her, explaining his heroics and making his progress heartwarming.Vax’s sleek and stylish character design makes him a fashion-forward bishounenworthy of any anime’s leading role.
He is a seedy bisexual flirt with a dirty sense of humor, breaking the puritanical stereotype of a Tolkienian lead hero.
But more to the point,Vax is a uniquely real male character in a world of one-dimensional elves, wizards, and heroes. Fantasy is full of samey heroic men. Vax, however, is a dark soul with the tormented burden of being the Raven Queen’s champion and not fully knowing what that means for him. Meanwhile, he is a seedy bisexual flirt with a dirty sense of humor, breaking the puritanical stereotype of a Tolkienian lead hero, loyal to one woman until the end of time.
2Pike Trickfoot
Gnome Cleric
Pike is a savage on the battlefield and in the bar, holding her own against foes three times her size and more.Pike may be small, but her allegiance to the Everlight makes her one of the most gratifying charactersto watch in fights, allowing her huge power. Pike is also massively conscientious, and her relationship with Grog proves it, with her calling him “buddies” affectionately being one ofThe Legend of Vox Machina’scatchiest and most memorable refrains.
This D&D Theory Totally Explains Pike’s Special Blood In The Legend Of Vox Machina
Pike Trickfoot’s expanded character arc in The Legend of Vox Machina may be giving her a bright future – and an even brighter backstory.
Pike met adevil inThe Legend of Vox Machina’sHells of Despathin season 3 and beat him in a card game. Pike’s determination and wisdom got Vox Machina through this arc, and it made her look like a boss. Additionally, the devil in question implied thatPike may have devil’s blood in her. This intriguing plot twist makes Pike a fascinating one to watch in season 4, rendering her struggle with loss of faith even more compelling.
1Grog Strongjaw
Goliath Barbarian
Grog must be the most likable member of Vox Machina - he is large and in charge, with the best dialogue of the whole series. Grog’s brute strength is contrasted with his brainpower, which is not so much meager as beautifully innocent. And on the meager side of middling.Grog’s childlike mind is like a ray of sunshine in a world of killingand intrigue, providing more comedy gold than all the rest of Vox Machina combined.
Voiced by Travis Gillingham, this goliath barbarian contended with an evil blade, inherited from Sylas Briarwood - an enemy of Percy’s. The blade was just as vampiric as its former owner, compelling Grog to do evil until he was forced to destroy it. In destroying the blade, Craven Edge,Grog went through character development beyond being hilariously dim-witted. Grog is a consummate good guy, driven by more than just the desire for fun and fighting inThe Legend of Vox Machina.
