Romi Park, the voice actor for Hange Zoë, commented that her character died in the most fitting way,despite the sorrowful nature of the scene itself and the tragic reactions from fellow characters. In a special interview withOricon Newsto celebrate the release of theAttack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACKfilm, Park spoke about her character’s death and how “brilliantly” it was handled. She offered touching thanks to her fellow voice actors, stating “Thanks to everyone’s hard work, I was able to die brilliantly.“Romi Park was not the only actor touched by Hange’s final scene. Connie’s voice actor, Hiro Shimono, explained that, “When I actually saw it on TV, it was so shocking. I knew it happened in the original story, but I felt once more that this was a magnificent way to die.”
Hange’s death was no great surprise to Park, since it occurred in Hajime Isayama’s originalAttack on Titanmanga, but she was particularly impressed with how the scene was adapted to the anime format. As the Commander of the Survey Corps after Erwin’s death, Hange was responsible for the squad’s safety and success, andthey made a touching sacrifice that ensured the soldiers would finally accomplish their missionto stop Eren from wiping out humanity. As the Alliance members rushed to escape on a seaplane, both Titans and Yeagerists threatened them at every turn, causing Hange to take drastic action.

Hange’s sacrifice was a perfect conclusion to their character arc, so it is understandable why Park appreciated the character’s act of courageousness. Although it was one of theAttack on Titanending’smost tear-jerking scenes, Hange offering their own life to keep their friends safe, while finally getting to see the creatures they admired up close, was the best possible outcome and directly led to the defeat of the Titans.
