Bri and Ellie’s feud over lead deckhand Joe Bradley certainly didn’t help, but their incompetence exacerbated strains on their three-person interior crew. Ellie was hired as the second stew aboard the Mustique forBelow Deck Mediterraneanseason 9. Unfortunately, Aesha was forced to work with a shoestring crew: while the Mustique normally requires four stews, Aesha was only working with two. Furthermore, neither Ellie nor Bri were particularly experienced, and the pair were often fighting or working through hierarchy issues. Ellie cared more about hierarchy than improving, making her a terrible second stew. From the beginning, she rubbed her superiority in Bri’s face. While it was helpful for her to show Bri the ropes and help her improve as a brand-new stew, her concern with hierarchy quickly turned sour after Bri showed interest in Joe. The two were so unable to get along that Aesha had to separate them, as Bri was sleeping on the floor in Joe and Nathan Gallagher’s cabin. When Bri would attempt to stick up for herself,Ellie would yell about hierarchy and how Bri was disrespecting her.

The role of a stew is to maintain the interior and ensure the guests have the best experience possible. However, Ellie doesn’t care about that, she just wants to wield power. If Ellie actually cared about the guests, she would be thrilled by the addition of a fourth stew. It has enabled Aesha, Bri, and Ellie to do their jobs more effectively and harbor less stress. However, Ellie has become enraged by the addition of Carrie because she feels her power has been usurped.

At the same time, the guests onboard the Mustique have had infinitely better experiences since the interior crew has grown. Ellie says she wants to be a chief stew, but she can’t even shed her ego as a second stew. She should be grateful to Carrie, but instead, she’s jealous of her. Ellie needs to put in the work and the time to become a chief stew and shift her attitude. Instead of focusing on herself, she should throw her energy into satisfying the guests. Only then can she improve at her job.

She Started Bossing Carrie Around
Ellie’s focus on power and hierarchy messed up the entire interior crew. The addition of Carrie should have been a saving grace for the stews, who were all stretched too thin. While Bri welcomed the new stew, Ellie became a monster. She insisted on bossing Carrie around at every turn and not allowing her to do the tasks she had become accustomed to, like bartending. Ellie even nitpicked all of Carrie’s decorating, insisting on her vision for the signs and balloons.
Carrie was hired as a floater, meaning it was her job to go wherever Aesha told her to go. By bossing Carrie around, Ellie tried to usurp power from her chief stew.
By insisting on hierarchy,Ellie failed her fellow crew members. Therefore, Aesha was right to snap at her. It remains to be seen whether Ellie can change her tune for the rest of the charter, but regardless, she shouldn’t return for another season ofBelow Deck Mediterranean. She’s proven that her ego is bigger than her desire to serve others, and she doesn’t care about causing trouble onboard. Ellie needs to go.
