Forging the Sword of Kings is a multi-stage task that requires in-depth exploration of theDragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, but can reward you with one of thebest weapons in the game. As the lore has it, the Sword of Kings was once kept under lock and key in Tantegel, but was eventually liberated by one ofDQ3’s chief antagonists (whom I won’t spoil here). That villain eventually destroyed the Sword of Kings so it couldn’t be used against him, but your hero can set out to forge a new one.
In order to do so,you’ll need to collect disparate parts from aroundDQ3’s map, then bring them back to a skilled smith to put it all together. Once that’s all done, though, you’ll have access to what may be the best sword in the game (at least until after the main story is over). Here’s how you can put it together.

Where To Find The Forging Hammer
And The Forge
You’ll first find a blacksmith capable of reforging the Sword of Kings in Kol, working the counter at the town’s item shop. He’ll go on a brief monologue about how his life has lost all meaning: he used to be a master blacksmith, buthe misplaced his hammer when he had to leave Jipang. Consider that your first clue, and Zoom/travel over to the island of Jipang to start your search.
Where To Find The Thief’s Key In Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake
The Thief’s Key is an important item that allows you to open all red doors in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, so it is something you should find quickly.
In the town of Jipang, you’ll want to find the blacksmith’s house, which is the northwesternmost building on the map. If you need a landmark, find a well in the center of Jipang, just west of the town’s church. To the left of that well is the blacksmith’s old house, where you’ll find his missing tools. If you’re having trouble locating his house in this town, just ask around. There’s an NPC standing outside, who’ll mention that a talented smith used to live here.

Simply walk inside the blacksmith’s old house andgrab the hammer, which is located inside a jar in the lower-left cornerof the screen. It’s sparkling pretty brightly, so it’s hard to miss. Before you return to Kol and give the smith his missing tools, though, you’ll need to spend some time sourcing the other materials first. Do note, however, that the forging hammer won’t be available until after you’vebeaten Baramos inDragon Quest 3.
Where To Find The Orichalcum
Parts & Labor
You may have already found the Orichalcum along your journey, as its location is pretty clearly marked. But in case you haven’t,the Orichalcum is located within a horse pen on the south side of Damdara. Ask around town if you’re unsure; the locals will point you towards the pasture.
Damdara is located south of Tantegel, and can pretty easily be accessed by crossing the desert. You’ll be able to see the Orichalcum sparkling from a distance, so simply walk up and grab it. See the picture above for a reference point of the Orichalcum’s location. With that, you may move onto the final stage of this quest: finding the original Sword of Kings.

Where To Find The Broken Blade
The Original Sword Of Kings
Next, you’ll need to head to Cantlin to find the Broken Blade. This is a treacherous area, and you’ll likely have to tread some poison swamps to access the town if you haven’t been before. If that’s the case, ensure someone in your party knows the Safe Passage spell so you don’t have to risk your life to get inside.
Safe Passage can be learned by Mages and Sages, sowatch your vocations inDQ3.

Once you’re in Cantlin, enter the westernmost building of the town, a large, almost-square structure just west of the large pond in its central plaza. On the second floor, in the room farthest to the left, there’s a broken sword sitting on a side table. Interact with it, and the scholar working in that room will agree to let you have it, no questions asked.
With all the materials in hand, you’ll be able toreturn to the smith in Kol, who will repair the Sword of Kingsfor you. Besides being a powerful sword in and of itself, the Sword of Kings will reward you with the “Stately Sword” achievement/trophy. More importantly, it makes a powerful tool for the endgame boss battles inDragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.
