Warning: Major spoilers ahead for Deadpool #5!Deadpool’s newest injury is threatening to change Wade Wilson’s life forever in a major lore change. While the Merc with a Mouth is best known for his hilarious jokes that break the fourth wall, Deadpool’s most notable ability ishis healing factor. The fact that he’s able to heal quickly enough to get back in any fight in seconds is essential for the antihero, but his latest injury is threatening to upend his strongest power completely.
InDeadpool #5by Cody Ziglar and Andrea Di Vito, Deadpool ends up winning in his battle with Death Grip, a villain who has been hunting Wade down since the beginning of his latest arc. However, during the fight,Death Grip manages to cut off one of the antihero’s arms and legs, leaving him two limbs short. While this would normally be resolved by regrowing his missing parts, the power of the Muramasa Blade has essentially cut him off from his strongest ability, making himofficially lose his healing factor.

Even Deadpool’s daughter, Ellie, points out how shocking it is to see her father not healing after such a major injury. However, despite the loss,Deadpool shows that he’s even more fearful about what comes next.
Deadpool’s Latest Injury Hints at His Upcoming Death
The Merc with a Mouth is Finally Mortal
What Deadpool’s latest massive injury means for fans of the comics is that his days are ultimately numbered. Marvel has announced thathe’ll finally embrace death in a future issueof the current series. By losing two key limbs that are essential to his skills as a mercenary,he’s completely exposed to the next foe who attacks him.He will essentially need to play things safe, as he’s no longer able to fight villains the way he has been, knowing that the next injury could be his last.
“If he’s hit with a magical ability similar to the power of the Muramasa Blade, it could lead to his undoing.”

However, it’s currently unknown if a simple blade to the chest will be enough to kill him. He’s currently still alive and not showing any signs of bleeding out, so it’s possible that his healing factor is still working in some capacity. However, if he’s hit with a magical ability similar to the power of the Muramasa Blade, it could lead to his undoing. Plus, with the preview for issue six showing a glowing hand bursting from Wade’s chest, his death could arrive sooner than fans expect.
Deadpool’s Daughter is Officially Set Up as the Next Deadpool with His Injury
Ellie Prepares to Succeed Her Father’s Title
The most interesting thing about Deadpool’s injury is how it sets up the future of theDeadpoolcomics once he dies. During 2024’s San Diego Comic Con, Marvel announced thathis daughter Ellie would be the next Deadpool, and this issue’s final moments perfectly set her up for her future role as the antihero. Wade tells her that she’ll “be going on field missions” now as he tries to heal, giving her much-needed experience for when it’s her turn to take up the mantle.
In a way, this defining moment in Deadpool’s life is a perfect bridge for the future of the character. It sets up his end while also hinting at the character’s future in a touching (and kinda gory) way.Deadpoolis nearing his final days in Marvel canon, and with this major shake-up to his lore, he’s preparing for this eventuality by prepping those he cares about for the future.
