After months of planning,Amanda Waller is finallygoing after the world’s metahuman population. Heroes all over are banding together to face the onslaught, including the beloved Justice League International.
InAbsolute Power #1byMark Waid and Dan Mora, Amanda Waller whips the public into a frenzy. She seizes control of every media outlet and broadcasts AI-generated videos that show superheroes going wild and attacking innocent civilians. All across the world, people are fearing for their lives and responding by attacking any superhuman they encounter.
While Cyborg, Oracle, and other tech-minded heroes trace the source of the videos, the heroes hit the streets to counter the narrative. In London, Martian Manhunter teams up with his old Justice League International teammates Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, Fire, Ice, and Elongated Man.
Justice League International Returns to Face a Worldwide Calamity
There have been several versions of the Justice League, but few looked back on as fondly as Justice League International. This team was the first incarnation of the team post-Crisis on Infinite Earthsand eschewed the team’s traditional members for new or lesser-known characters. The JLI era is seen by many fans as one of the boldest reinventions of the team. While this incarnation was eventually replaced,the JLI has had a few reunions over the years, including a brief revival of their title during the New 52. Unfortunately, it’s been a few years since they’ve been in the spotlight.
Of course, this technically isn’t a revival of the team. They aren’t addressed as ‘Justice League International in the panel they show up in, but rather, by their individual names. But it’s still nice to see the team together, even if it’s not the entire team. It’s also an odd sight to see them all together right now. Justice League International was generally a more lighthearted and funnier take on the team, but there’s nothing funny about what’s currently going on in the DC Universe. But could this one panelhint at a possible future for the iconic Justice League team?
Justice League International Possibly Returning?
Right now, the world doesn’t have any Justice League at the moment. While Amanda Waller is doing her damnedest to end superheroes for good, things are almost certain to end in the heroes’ favor. When things do get back to normal, perhaps it’s time for the JLI to get back together. They still clearly fight effectively together and after a dark event like this, fans are going to need a bit of levity. What team is better suited to lighten the DC Universe’s mood than permanently bringing back the most comedic version of theJustice League?
