Possibility Of Black Myth: Wukong PS5 Exclusivity Clarified
After some push-back from other industry insiders,Forbes’Paul Tassihas provided some follow-up tweets pertaining to insider information on a potential exclusivity deal to haveBlack Myth: Wukongcome to PS5 before Xbox Series X/S, clarifying, “it seems possible a temp exclusivity deal was done for paying to get a port done on PS side without paying for a traditional marketing deal.“Screen Rant’s original story on Tassi’s claim continues below.
Black Myth: Wukongis officially out as of August 20, but one console seems to have gotten overlooked in the launch. The action RPG developed by Game Science is out on PC and PlayStation 5 right now. However, the game hasn’t been released on Xbox yet, with no announcement about when fans might expect it to come to the console.

ForbeswriterPaul Tassishared an explanation on X (formerly Twitter), offering new insight into what happened. Tassi states that, according to an inside source, “Black Myth: Wukong is not currently on Xbox because of an exclusivity deal, and is not delayed because of any sort of technical issue.”
At this time, it’s unclear which information is correct, as this insider insight seems to go against an official Game Science statement. Tassi is, however, a reliable source on such matters in the gaming industry.

New Information About Black Myth: Wukong Xbox Version Contradicts Developer Statement
Conflicting Statements Are Unclear About True Reason For The Delay
Tassi had previously reported that the delay may have been caused by an optimization issue with the Xbox Series X/S. In hisForbesarticle, Tassi wrote that the information was acquired by a third party in a Gamescom interview. Originally, the delay was thought to be caused by a “memory leak” that leads to crashes and poor performance.
This alleged reason for the delay is reinforced by theGame Sciencewebsite. The official pre-order FAQ, posted on June 8, states: “PC and PS5 users can enjoy the full game starting August 01, 2025. We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won’t release simultaneously with the other platforms.” The statement goes on to say that the Xbox release date will be announced as soon as it’s available, once it meets the developer’s quality standards.

IfBlack Myth: Wukongis indeed a PS5 and PC exclusive, there’s no real reason for the company to hide this fact. Players who are playing the game on the platforms where it’s currently available note that performance issues have been happening on PC and PS5, too, dampening the experience ofWukong’s incredible graphics. Either the issues are particularly bad on Xbox, or the developers have a different reason for delaying the release.
Regardless of the reason for the delay, it seems that fans will need to wait a bit longer to playBlack Myth: Wukongon Xbox Series X/S and any potentialinclusion in Xbox Game Pass. The game will eventually make it to Xbox, according Game Science, but as of right now, there’s no new information on when this will happen.
