OneMarvel Rivalsplayer shares the plethora of frustrations that come with the vanguard role, asplayers don’t seem to understand the importance of tanking. With the game currently open-ended and allowing players the freedom to select any role,Marvel Rivalsprioritizes a lot of player strategy and fusions. This lack of role queue can be very fun in the potential it provides but equally leaves some roles feeling underfulfilled and frustrating for the team.

Coming to Reddit to share their thoughts, theMarvel RivalsplayerAzog4472expresses just how difficult it can be when teams are “thankless” of their job. As the vanguard role often comes with creating space for the team, blocking damage, and taking a lot of hits for others to survive, it can seem like their contributions are minimal. But the reality is, the role is incredibly important for the team’s overall potential to win, andhaving just one tank alone can be a detriment overall.

Marvel Rivals Vanguard Role Seems To Be Unappreciated

Players Don’t Understand The Value of Tanking In Rivals

As vented by the frustrated playerAzog4472,it’s clear that many players do not understand the value of playing Vanguard inMarvel Rivals. As they create space for the team and block damage, it’s often frustrating to see DPS making little to no use of their contributions, instead of a completely irrelevant fight for the team. Their statistics can also look a little poorer due to Vanguard focusing on blocking over pure damage and kills, often being a great enabler for DPS to succeed.

The Clash of Dancing Lions is a three-vs-three soccer style event in Marvel Rivals. Compete for rewards until mid-February.

Not only is playing Vanguard underappreciated, butmany players simply do not want to play tankeither, making games a lot harder than they need to be. One commenter who goes bySeartugboatadds, “The other thing is when they can’t handle any of the divers and you gotta give space as the only tank”.Thelack of a role lock makes it difficult for one tank to control everything needed in one game. With so much responsibility and not enough power to do it all, the role becomes high pressure with little support from the team to succeed.

Our Take: There Are Not Enough Main Tanks In Marvel Rivals

A Lack of Role Queue Leaves The Game Struggling

Without a role queue inMarvel Rivals,it does seem that the game is somewhat struggling to stay balanced. Players can ignore roles altogether for a team comp of pure damage if they choose, limiting themselves without the blocking of vanguards and the heals from supports. Many team comps will lean into 2 supports, 3 damage roles, and 1 singular tank because of this, making the game brutally difficult for everyone involved.

There are manyarguments for why role lock needs to be addedto the game, but asNetEase continues to prioritize the game’s potential for team combinations and strategy, it seems unlikely that this issue will be tackled anytime soon. The reality though, is that there are top 500 tanks, who need top 500 healers, who also need top 500 DPS. No role inMarvel Rivalsis less than another, and without balance, it’s a much harder job.
