After originating the role in 1988, he recently reprised the character of the iconic bio-exorcist Betelgeuse in the 2024 Tim Burton legacy sequel, which reunited Keaton with original cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara reprising their roles as Lydia and Delia Deetz respectively alongside a cast of franchise newcomers that includes Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux and Jenna Ortega. Although the movie was a critical and commercial hit, so far thepossibleBeetlejuice 3has not been greenlit.
E! Newshas now shared an interview with Michael Keaton from the red carpet for the new movieGoodrich. During their conversation, they asked if the star would return forBeetlejuice 3, which has not yet been officially greenlit. Keaton responded in the affirmative,succinctly saying “Oh yeah, I’d do it every year, yeah.“This is in keeping with his previous comments about the role, including stating thatBeetlejuiceis his favorite movie that he has ever made.

However, should Keaton’s enthusiasm get Burton on board to make another installment, it seemshighly likely that it would be able to get made. Although the 2024 sequel had a budget of $100 million, which was more than six times the original 1988 movie’s $15 million, theBeetlejuice Beetlejuicebox officehas grossed more than $400 million at the time of writing, making it a substantial hit. That total, plus its Certified Fresh 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes, makes it a very viable prospect for a continuation.

In front of the camera, the return of Catherina O’Hara, Winona Ryder, and Jenna Ortega as the extended Deetz family would be necessary in order to provide his character with the best possible foils.The sequel would also need the involvement of Tim Burton, whose inimitable visual style is a major reason the franchise has been successful in the first place.
