Paul Mescal has addressed rumors that he’s been cast as Paul McCartney inThe Beatlesbiopics, revealing if he’s been approached for the role. In February 2024,director Sam Mendeswas confirmed to be directing four separate biopics about each member ofThe Beatles, with one film focused on every band member. The movies are expected to be theatrically released in 2027, with the same actors playing each member across all four movies. In a June 2024report onThe Beatlesmovies, it was rumored that Mescal had been approached for the role of McCartney in these biopics.

Speaking withGQ, however, Mescal definitively addressed whether he’ll be playing Paul inThe Beatlesbiopics from Sam Mendes, stating, “I would love to be involved, but there’s nothing set in stone.“This indicates the actor has not definitively taken the role, meaning he may not be portraying the musician despite rumors to the contrary. However, it doesn’t mean he won’t be considered, since the films are still in the early stages of development.

Let It Be: The Beatles Break-Up Film & Final Concert Explained

Let It Be was originally going to be a behind-the-scenes short film about the Beatles, but became a documentary about their final stretch as a band.

Since it’s now unclear who will becast asThe Beatles, it makes Mendes' upcoming movies even more mysterious. The films are already a risky endeavor, as all four being released theatrically in the same year could push too much content onto the big screen at once. However, the success of films likeBohemian Rhapsody,Elvis, and even Taylor Swift’sThe Eras Tourconcert shows there’s a wide audience for musical history who will flock to theaters. Splitting the band up onscreen might increase this success, despite less information now available.
