Cassandra Cain’sBatgirlhas one of the most unique and recognizable masks in the Bat-Family, second only, perhaps, toRed Hood’sfull-face helmet. Now, this mask has received a major futuristic upgrade that looks straight out ofBatman Beyond—and we’re crossing our fingers it makes an in-narrative debut.
Releasing on August 15, 2025, Tate Brombal and Takeshi Miyazawa’sBatgirl#2 continuesCassandra Cain’s new solo series, delving into her complex relationship with her mother, Lady Shiva—one of the most skilled and deadly assassins in the DC Universe.

In this issue, tensions between Cassandra and Lady Shiva escalate as they flee from the mysterious Unburied who are hunting them. However, the highlight of the teaser is a variant cover by Skylar Patridge, showcasingCassandra in one of her most badass masks yet, with a design that feels like the ultimateBatman Beyondtribute.
What Batgirl’s New Mask Upgrade Means For Her Character
Cover B Card Stock Variant by Jorge Jiménez forBatgirl#2 (2024)
Patridge’s art presents a striking, shoulder-up view ofCassandra in her Batgirl costume, with vivid blues, pinks, and her signature black. What makes this cover especially noteworthy is its reimagining of Cass’s iconic closed-mouth, full-face mask in a distinctly futuristic style. Typically,Cass’s mask has a ragdoll-like appearance with stitched-up mouth and fabric-like texture, but here, it’s transformed into something more like a gas mask, featuring a hardshell look with what appears to be a circular breathing apparatus over the mouth area.
The New BATGIRL is Officially Chosen: Could DC Finally Give Her The ‘Reset’ She Deserves?
Cassandra Cain’s new BATGIRL series will revisit her relationship with Lady Shiva on a solo adventure - without her Batgirl partner Stephanie Brown.
Most notably, this cover replaces the usual white eyes of Cass’s mask with a reflective hot pink that adds a bold, sharp contrast to the otherwise solid black costume. The sleek, seamless design and its single pop of color bring aBatman Beyondaesthetic to mind. For instance, Terry McGinnis—the Batman of the future—also wears a full-face mask and an all-black, streamlined costume with a single color accent, his red bat logo. The similarities are clear, yet Patridge masterfully preserves the most iconic features of Cass’s mask—the closed mouth and large glowing eyes—while infusing it with a fresh, futuristic twist.

Our Take on Batgirl’s New ‘Beyond’ Style Mask Design
Will Cassandra Cain’s New Mask Get an In-Narrative Debut? (We Sure Do Hope So)
As of June 06, 2025, Patridge’s cover is the only artwork so far to hint at this design change, with other preview art for the series still showing Cass in her classic Batgirl costume. However, this doesn’t necessarily rule out an in-narrative debut for the sleek, pink-eyed mask. Patridge’s cover could very well be foreshadowing a future costume upgrade for Cassandra. Yet even if this redesign remains exclusive to the cover, fans are sure to appreciate the seeminglyBatman Beyond-inspired twist onBatgirl’slook.
