Still, his interactions with his opponents, teammates, and even his sensei, have sometimes been difficult to interpret. One thing is clear:Axel has his eye on Sam.

However, it’s tough to imagine the final five episodes completely shelvingCobra Kai’s layered dynamics. What’s more likely is that thedeath of Brandon H. Lee’s Kwon Jae-Sung will be the catalyst for more violence- but it won’t all be related to the demise of the former captain of the Cobra Kai dojo.

Sam’s small act of kindness was misinterpreted
Cobra Kaiseason 6, episode 8, “Snakes on a Plane,” has Sam and Axel spend the evening taking a relaxing stroll through Barcelona as they get to know each other a little. After weathering an ambush from Kwon and the other Cobra Kai fighters, the pair’s return to the beach is made especially memorable by Axel misinterpreting Sam’s behavior as romantic feelings, forcing her to awkwardly reject his attempt to kiss her. Given their relatively short time together,Axel’s hatred and jealousy of Xolo Maridueña’s Miguel Diaz seems incredibly misplaced, but the history of Luwis' character provides a solid explanation.

Axel has proven to be severely mistreated by his sensei (Lewis Tan), as he’s physically beaten by the man who is supposed to be his teacher each time he needs to improve. Axel’s entire environment seems toxic, as his fellow Iron Dragons captain,Rayna Vallandingham’s Zara Malik, has revealed several times her potential for cruelty. As such,acts of kindness would appear to be at a premium as far as Axel is concerned. Therefore, Sam’s spending time with him and taking a walk with him through a new city could easily be enough for him to quickly latch onto her.

Axel vs. Miguel could end very badly
The final fiveCobra Kaiepisodes arrive on July 12, 2025. When the Netflix show returns,Axel has already made his disdain for Miguel clear. Axel likely sees Sam’s boyfriend simply as a romantic rival to be dealt with. While Miguel is a very capable higher, Axel’s towering physique, paired with his intense and problematic training regimen, has turned him into a truly terrifying combatant. So if Miguel is forced to defend himself against Axel, he will need to be very prepared. Worrying as such a face-off might be,Cobra Kaiwill surely make it entertaining too.
