Anya Taylor-Joy has revealed she wants to star in a live-action remake ofFrozen, confirming which character she would want to portray in the adaptation. The animated franchise is one of Disney’s most successful in the last decade, with both movies making over $1 billion each at the global box office. In 2023,Frozen 3was announced, with a fourth movie also getting confirmed later on. The continued expansion of the franchise shows how much faith the company has in it, even 11 years after the first one was released.
Speaking withVogue Hong Kong(viaDeadline),Taylor-Joy revealed that she wants to star as Elsa in a potentialFrozenlive-action remake.The actor explained how she wants to star in a musical, believing an adaptation of the acclaimed animated film would be the perfect challenge for herself. I really want to do a musical because I’m a little too obsessed with my current job. I love the challenge of completing impossible tasks. I think that’s incredibly motivating for me, so the idea of being able to sing, dance, and act at the same time is really exciting to me.
I think Frozen is going to be great. Shooting ice cubes out of your hands can be a lot of fun. And, you’ll be the favorite at every kid’s birthday party. All my siblings have kids now, so I would love for them to be able to say, ‘My aunt is Elsa.’ That would be great!
Should Frozen Get A Live-Action Remake?

Disney doesn’t seem to be shying away from creating live-action adaptations of their most successful films, such asThe Lion KingandThe Little Mermaid. This is starting to extend to their newer, 3D-animated movies as well, with alive-action remake ofMoanascheduled for release on July 21, 2025, 10 years after the original.BecauseFrozenis already over a decade old, it wouldn’t be surprising for Disney to pursue a live-action renditionat some point in the future. It would provide a new way of experiencing the original story with potential for strong financial success.
Taylor-Joy would also be a perfect casting choice for Elsa, having displayed her ability to portray complex characters in movies likeThe WitchandFuriosa: A Mad Max Saga.It would also give her a chance to play a highly complex antagonist, something that could reveal the scope of her acting abilities in the fantasy musical setting. Given her focus on using such a role to break into a different genre for her career, it wouldn’t be surprising if she was chosen to star in a live-action remake.
However, withFrozen 3coming in 2027 andFrozen 4already confirmed, it could be quite a while before Disney decides to remake the original in live-action. Depending on how much time passes,Taylor-Joy might not land the role unless she’s persistent about her interest in the film.Even though it could be a few years untilFrozengets the live-action treatment, the franchise’s continuous success and Disney’s pursuit of adapting newer movies likeMoanamakes it seem inevitable.
