Summary
With no official reports having ever confirmed her return, Yvette Nicole Brown has finally given an answer on her potentialCommunitymovie appearance. Upon its announcement, theCommunitymovie castwas set to see the returns of Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash and Ken Jeong, while Brown and Donald Glover were not initially confirmed.
During a recent interview withParadeto discuss her new podcast,Squeezed, Brown was asked about the possibility of her return for theCommunitymovie. The original star excitedly confirmed she is “on board” to return as Shirley for the film continuation of the cult classic sitcom, and promises that it “will happen” after various filming start delays. Check out what Brown shared below:

It will happen! We don’t know when, but I’m on board. And that might be a scoop because, for the longest time, it wasn’t confirmed. It was going to happen this June, but everything got pushed because of the [SAG-AFTRA] strike last year.
The Long Wait For The Community Movie Continues To Be Worth It
Though never officially announced by Peacock, this isn’t the first time Brown’s involvement intheCommunitymovie’s storywas seemingly confirmed, with Jeong having indicated in January 2024 that she would be returning. She wasn’t the only cast member that longtime fans of the show waited to hear about returning, as Glover’s involvement took a year and a half to be confirmed by the Golden Globe and Emmy winner. Prior to both of their confirmations, though, Harmon had frequently assured he intended to have them both back.
While filming has seen various delays in getting started, Brown’s optimism abouttheCommunitymoviestill being on track echoes her other co-stars' comments following the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes that shut down Hollywood. Prior to Brown, the most recent update for the movie came from McHale in July 2024, in which he said the movie finally had “the money” to begin production, while indicating a “vaguely next year” window for starting.

10 Non-Study Group Members We Want To See In The Community Movie
The Community movie needs to bring back many beloved non-study group members who make Greendale feel complete in Dan Harmon’s titular comedy TV show.
Beyond just cast confirmations, though, theCommunitymovie is certainly looking to be well worth the decade-long wait for its arrival. Harmon has frequently shared positive updates on the movie’s script, with Brie also revealing in April 2024 that she’s not only read the script, but that “it’s so funny”. With the long wait not only bringing about the opportunity for Harmon to improve the script, but also ensuring more actors get to reprise their fan-favorite roles, the movie could very well be a meaningful continuation of the beloved show.
