Summary

John Corbett is returning forAnd Just Like That…season 3, suggesting Carrie and Aidan have ended their five-year break, as Aidan now lives in Virginia. It’s not likely that he happened to run into Carrie, although that happened memorably throughoutSex and the City. Aidan and Carrie could be meeting for several reasons, but whatever it is, it breaks what they agreed upon in theAnd Just Like Thatseason 2 finale. The couple agreed on a five-year break after buying an apartment together, holding off on their relationship until Aidan’s youngest son graduated.

Despite the plan, Aidan actor John Corbett was featured in a photo of theAnd Just Like Thatcastdressed in all black and another photo of him holding hands with his former girlfriend (viaPeople.) While the couple is in formal wear, it doesn’t appear to be their wedding ceremony, but that doesn’t mean they are not together inAnd Just Like Thatseason 3. Aidan and Carrie may rekindled an old flame, and nowAJLTseries has a big decision to make regarding Aidan’s rolein the story.

Aidan And Carrie Have To Decide Whether They Should Revive Their Romance

Reviving Carrie And Aidan’s Romance Is A Major Risk

With Aidan’s return to theSex in the Cityuniverse,And Just Like Thatseason 3 has to decide whether Aidan and Carrie will revive their romance. The couple rekindled theirSex and the Cityromance inAJLTseason 2 after Carrie dealt with severe affairs in season 1. At the onset ofAJLTseason 1, Carrie lost her husband, Big, to a heart attack. Carrie spent season 1 grieving and processing the loss of her partner. She briefly dated her podcasting boss at the beginning of season 2, before Aidan returned, after Carrie emailed him.

Carrie committed fully to Aidan in the reboot, something she could never do in the original series.

Carrie and Aidan in Sex and the City 2

When Aidan and Carrie met to catch up inAJLTseason 2, it was enthralling to see them together again, and they quickly revived their romance. Carrie went so far as to declare thather entire marriage toBig was"a big mistake.“Carrie committed fully to Aidan in the reboot, something she could never do in the original series, but it was too late. Aidan was too deeply involved in his responsibilities with his family to throw abandon to the wind and fall head over heels for Carrie like he once did inSex and the City.

Why Carrie And Aidan’s Relationship Won’t Work (Again)

The Third Time Was Not A Charm

While they were amazing together in the original series, seeing Carrie and Aidan revive their relationship inAJLTwas an unfortunate reminder of why it didn’t work. Carrie and Aidan got wrapped up in their relationship to the point that they neglected their relationships with their friends and families, and that’s exactly what happened in the reboot. Although, this time, they aren’t just annoying their other young friends. Aidan had his kids to think about. Aidan’s youngest son, Wyatt, despised his father’s dual lifestyle, co-parenting with his ex-wife from New York City while he dated Carrie.

Carrie and Aidan’s relationshipwill likely not work again. It has already failed three times. InAJLTseason 2, Carrie had a brief fling with a software engineer named George. The relationship revived the best part of the original series: Carrie’s bizarre dating life and the conversations to be had about it.AJLTseason 3 should revive an essential element that worked for the series because Carrie and Aidan’s relationship does not. It was expected that in the next season ofAnd Just Like That…Carrie would move beyondSex and the City’s two leading men: Mr. Big and Aidan Shaw.

Carrie And Aidan’s AJLT Romance Continued This Devastating SATC Trend

Carrie And Aidan Act Impulsively When In Love

Carrie and Aidan had a beautiful reckoning inAnd Just Like That…season 2, but their relationship revived an unfortunate trend fromSex and the City.Carrie and Aidan’s romance inAJLTwas just as impulsive and unplanned as the first two iterations, if not worse. The couple jerks around their closest family members and friends as they attempt to put the pieces of their relationship together, ultimately failing. At the end of season 2,Aidan learned that Wyatt crashed into a tree while highon mushrooms. His neglect of his responsibilities could have cost his son’s life.

The couple didn’t have much foresight after years of hindsight.

AJLTseason 2 confirmed there is no good way for Aidan and Carrie to revive their romance. While they ended on good terms at the end ofAJLTseason 2, Carrie had sold her iconic flat and bought an apartment in Gramercy Park. It was arguably necessary for the character to move and evolve, landing somewhere between the apartment of her 30s and the penthouse she spent her marriage in. Still,Carrie selling her apartment was a lot of work for a relationship that didn’t pan out. The couple didn’t have much foresight after years of hindsight.

There Is One Other Explanation For Aidan’s Appearance In AJLT Season 3

Steve’s Death Could Prompt Aidan’s Return

There is another explanation for Aidan’s appearance inAJLTseason 3.He could be returning for the funeral of his close friend and former business partner, Steve Brady. After the cast ofAJLTappeared in an image with everyone wearing black, a funeral is presumed to occur in season 3. Since Miranda’s ex-husband, Steve, was apparently not part of the scene, many speculated that it was Steve’s funeral. Steve’s funeral would surely bring Aidan back to the city, and it would be an occasion that he and Carrie could bond over.

Watch the story of Steve and Aidan opening their Brooklyn bar, Scout, inSex and the Cityseason 4, episode 5, “Ghost Town.”

Steve and Aidan in Sex and the City

Even if Aidan is just appearing forSteve’s funeral inAJLT,Aidan and Carrie will have to reckon with their relationship. The most unlikely scenario would be that Aidan comes for the funeral, confirms that he and Carrie are on a five-year break (although less, now), and returns to Virginia to raise his boys. Carrie would be free to date other people if that did happen while waiting for Aidan to become available. That said, it’s way more likely that Carrie and Aidan use the inflection point to either end their relationship or instate terms to continue it long-distance.

Carrie and Aidan should not revive their relationship. The series should explore Carrie’s dating – as it was in the beginning – for at least a season. The reboot has barely delivered that. Carrie briefly dated her podcast boss, Franklyn, and the software engineer, and seeing Carrie dating again – entering the familiarly unfamiliar – felt authentic toSex and the City. For herself and women everywhere, Carrie needs to explore what dating is like in her 50s.And Just Like That…should have more fun with this concept. It’s both too simple and too complicated for Carrie and Aidan to live happily ever after.
