Alien: Romulus' Sequel Needs More Interesting & Creative Monsters Like The Offspring

The Film Franchise Has To Continue To Evolve

One of the biggest successes ofAlien: Romuluswas the Offspring, a brand-new type of Alien that was created from theblack goo that first appeared inPrometheus. The reveal of the creature was quite a big surprise, asRomuluswas meant to emulate the originalAlien, which features just one Xenomorph, butat the end, the film swung hard out of left field with this crazy amalgamationof human, Xenomorph, and Engineer, alongside multiple traditional xenos. The Offspring also appears after the survivors escape from the Renaissance and the threat is seemingly neutralized, adding to the shock factor of the creature’s appearance.

Rook’s Plan In Alien: Romulus Explained

Rook is an extremely important part of Alien: Romulus, and his plan is the driving force behind many of the events throughout the entire movie.

Outside theOffspring’s excellent design inAlien:Romulus, the creature works because it is different from what has come before.Alienis a long-running franchise, and despite many of the films being great, a lot of them follow the same basic story structure, which can lead to them feeling too similar. The Offspring is a great symbol of the series' willingness to experiment with creaturesoutside the classic Xenomorphs, and the franchise needs to keep that up if it hopes to prevent itself from feeling boring.

The Alien: Romulus Sequel Can Take Inspiration From Aliens

It Would Make Sense To Follow In The Footsteps Of The Series' Best Sequel

The originalAlienremains one of the bestAlienfilms, in large part because, when compared to most other properties in the franchise, it is quite simple and more straightforward, telling the story of Ripley and the crew trying to survive an alien attack. However, the sequel,Aliens, came out a few years later and introduced a ton of new lore and monsters, specifically the Xenomorph Queen, greatly expanding what was possible in the universe.IfRomulusisAlien, then its sequel should take inspiration fromAliens, and expand upon everything set up inRomulus, including the Offspring.

This could take many forms, and with the wayRomulusset up the Offspring, anything is possible. The black goo transformed a human baby into something entirely different from a Xenomorph, so it could likely infect any number of things, and there is still plenty of it on Rain and Andy’s ship. There could be more hybrid creatures created from interaction with full Xenomorphs, or maybe to take the reference all the way, there could be a Xenomorph Queen/Offspring hybrid of some kind. The possibilities are endless, andAlien: Romulus' sequel has plenty of tools to capitalize on them.
