The wait forAhsokaseason 2, following an overall positive reception with season 1, is reportedly set to continue into next year. Starring Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano,Ahsokawas officially renewed for season 2 alongsideStar Wars’announcement ofThe Mandalorian & Grogumovie, with Lucasfilm assuring audiences that the project was in development with creator Dave Filoni at the helm. After 10 months of no news, however, viewers have grown anxious aboutAhsokaseason 2’s status. As it turns out, production likely won’t begin for the new installment until after 2024 comes to an end.

In a round-up analysis of Disney’sStar Warscontent,THRhas reported that “sources say the new [Ahsoka] season will go into production next year.“This isn’t too surprising, considering that Filoni and the rest of theAhsokacreative team are currently working on filmingThe Mandalorian & Grogumovie, which began production back in July of this year. Still, it unfortunately setsAhsokaseason 2 back quite far, considering the fact thatAhsokaseason 1 will likely be celebrating its 2-year anniversary around the time it will reportedly start filming season 2.

This timeline for production onAhsokaseason 2 means thatStar Warshas truly dialed back its TV release slate, and it will likely be resetting itself quite soon.Ahsokais one of only three live-actionStar WarsTV shows that are left to be released, withSkeleton Crewarriving on December 3 andAndorseason 2expected to arrive in the early part of next year. IfAhsokaseason 2 isn’t even entering production until 2025, then it probably won’t release until 2026 - which would more than likely be after the release ofThe Mandalorian & Groguin theaters.

Several exciting Star Wars TV shows are set to be released on Disney+ in the coming years from the realm of both live-action and animation.

What could be happening here is thatStar Warsis planning to relaunch its TV slate during the next Star Wars Celebration, which takes place in Tokyo next spring.Ahsokaseason 2 could be a part of that new plan, hence why production on its next installment is being pushed back so far. With all the focus currently going to thenextStar Warsmovie, it’s very possible that the franchise is hoping to hit big withThe Mandalorian & Groguto better balance its movies and its TV shows going forward, rather than favoring one above the other.

Why Is Ahsoka Season 2 Taking So Long To Make?

Star Wars' Next Movie Is The Current Focus

Given how closely knitAhsokais into the “Mandoverse,“it could be thatThe Mandalorian & Groguhas to be made first in order forAhsokaseason 2’s story to be fully polished. IfAhsokaseason 2 is meant to take place after that movie in theStar Warstimeline, then it’s reasonable to understand that Filoni wouldn’t want to get ahead of himself and accidentally create snags in the continuity. Of course, audiences won’t truly know the reason for the delay untilAhsokaseason 2 is ready, though I’m optimistic that it will be worth the wait.
