1000-lb Sisters' starTammy Slatonhas lost an extraordinary amount of weight, and she’s no longer the insecure person she once was. The reality series, which premiered in 2020, gets its name from 38-year-old Tammy and her sister, 37-year-old Amy Slaton, who once weighed a combined 1,000 pounds. The show chronicles their weight-loss journeys, which haven’t always been easy.
During the first episode of the series, Tammy weighed over 600 pounds, and she’d go on to weigh 725 at her heaviest. The1000-lb Sistersseason 19star wasn’t committed to losing weight until aftera health scare landed her in a week-long medically induced coma. Tammy used to be insecure, but after having bariatric surgery and losing a stunning amount of weight, she has real self-confidence for the first time.

When Tammy made her1000-lb Sistersdebut,her quality of life was severely diminished. She had limited mobility and needed help with basic tasks like bathing and dressing herself. If she needed to go anywhere, it would require a wheelchair, a walker, a ramp, a specialty van with the middle seat ripped out so she could sit on the floor, and somebody to drive her everywhere. DespiteTammy’s terrible quality of life, she didn’t right the ship until she almost died.

After her health scare, Tammy was determined to save her own life. After focusing on treating her food addiction,Tammy had bariatric surgeryand lost a significant amount of weight. Sheunderwent a bariatric surgical procedure known as a duodenal switch in July 2022, and Tammy’s weight began to melt away. Losing so much weight so quickly, left her with lots of loose skin that’s heavy and made it difficult for her to walk. Her next goal is to pursue weight-loss surgery.

When she stepped on the scale during the premiere episode of1000-lb Sistersseason 1, Tammy weighed 608 pounds. By season 3, she had reached 725 pounds. After focusing on losing weight,Tammy lost an incredible 500 pounds. The1000-lb Sistersstar wentfrom 725 to 225 pounds, proving to herself she can do anything. Her newfound self-confidence was hard-earned and more than well-deserved.
