Amanda Halterman’s been through a lot since appearing in1000-Lb Sisters, but she’s still pursuing her weight-loss goals, and it’s time to talk about whether she’ll exit the popular series. 43-year-old Amanda, a school bus driver from Kentucky, is a force of nature. She didn’t appear in the first few seasons of the unscripted show, as she was busy going through a divorce, but she’s always been in her siblings' lives. The Slatons are a close-knit clan, and Amanda is the protective mama bear of the bunch. The gregarious cast member has struggled recently.
The beloved showfocuses on the weight-loss journeys of 48-year-old Tammy Slaton and 37-year-old Amy Slaton, but several of their siblings, including Amanda, have also pursued their own health and fitness goals. During1000-lb Sistersseason 6, Amanda went to see the doctor, and she was weighed for the first time in a long time. Amanda was disappointed by the results, but she wasn’t really surprised. Amanda’s body makeover has always had ups and downs. Read on to find out more about Amanda’s journey and current status.

Her Life’s A Whirlwind Of Change
The last few years have been a whirlwind of change for Amanda. The shift began in 2023, when Amanda decided to have bariatric surgery. She’d had bariatric surgery once before, over a decade ago, but she had gained the weight back. It’snot uncommon for people to have a second weight-loss surgery, but the risks are considerably higher the second time around. That’s why Amanda’s siblings were concerned when she broke the news to them during1000-lb Sistersseason 5. Despite their concerns, Amanda went in for her second gastric bypass surgery in 2023.

Amanda wasn’t alone that day. One of her other siblings, 48-year-old Misty Wentworth, went in for surgery on the same day with the same doctor. The back-to-back procedures were successful, and both women lost a significant amount of weight quickly. During1000-lb Sistersseason 6, theentire Slaton clan went to see Doctor Eric Smith for a weigh-in. Over the years, Dr. Smith treated Tammy and 43-year-old Chris Combs. Some of the Slaton siblings had better results than others. When it was Amanda’s turn to step on the scale, she was disappointed with what she saw.

Amanda’s Knee Surgery Led To A Setback
A Serious Injury Caused Her Plateau
One reason Amanda is such a fan favorite is that she seems to know how to have fun. In a TikTok video,Amandaexplained how she hurt her knee while stepping off a swing set. Though she didn’t think much of the injury at first, itturned out to be more serious than she first thought. She had to get major knee surgery, which reallyhindered Amanda’s weight-loss journey. Being laid up while recovering from surgery meant she couldn’t exercise, so she wasn’t able to drop as much weight as she wanted to.
Things were going so well for Amanda after weight-loss surgery, until she hurt herself.

During the1000-lb Sistersseason 6 weigh-in, Amanda was still in recovery from her knee surgery. She even came to the exam in her wheelchair, and needed help from two of her siblings. They assisted her with stepping up onto the scale. At her previous weigh-in, Amanda weighed 299 pounds, and this time, the scale read 268 pounds. Learning that she had only lost 31 pounds after having bariatric surgery was devastating, but she’s not the type who will stay down for long.
Amanda’s Relationship Status
Amanda quietly finalized her divorcefrom Jason Halterman while filming1000-lb Sistersseason 4. Amanda and Jason had beenmarried for 22 years and had four sons together. Finding herself single again, Amanda met a new man named RJ. She fell for him hard, and, before long, Amanda announced that she’d be moving from Kentucky to Florida to be with him. The couple seemed solid when Amandaposted a now-deleted photo of her and her then-boyfriend on TikTok, taken during a happier phase. In the image, RJ and Amanda cuddle up together on the beach.
Amanda’s caption reads, “@RJV I love life with you, Can’t wait to be back on the beach!!”
Despite living far away from her family, Amanda seemed blissfully happy with RJ. Her happiness would be short-lived. In June,Amandaposted a TikTok about howRJ had ghosted her completely.According to Amanda’s TikTok, he left town to visit his family and never returned. He wouldn’t even take her calls. The man she thought she’d spend the rest of her life with had disappeared without respecting her enough to break up with her. Amanda packed up her things and headed back to her family in Kentucky.
What’s Next For Amanda?
She’s A Force Of Nature
Now that Amanda’s back in Kentucky, it’s like she never missed a beat with her family. Herweight-loss plateau was really hard for Amanda to deal with, and so was the fact that she was struggling to manage pain due to her knee injury. Amanda isn’t in the best place with all her siblings right now. That’s because she spent much of1000-lb Sistersseason 6fighting with Tammy and Amy.
Despite the family tension, the Slatons never seem to leave each other’s sides for long.
The siblings fight all the time, but they continue to be there for each other. Having such a solid support system is a big part of why the Slatons have all been able to lose so much weight over the years. However,Amanda has been struggling with post-bariatric surgery life. She’s had to deal with physical and personal setbacks that have led to her weight-loss plateau. Amanda may not be in the best place these days, but the1000-lb Sistersstar will bounce back.
