Little Useless Creatures
Taming Compies inArk: Survival Ascendedis not worth it. They are very small and deal very little damage, making them ineffective in fights, even against other weak creatures. While you can tame them using prime meat,the effort is just not worth the minor benefits you get. They have low health, so they die quickly in battles.

You’d be better off using those resources on almost any other creature, evendinos that are hard to tamebut give you something in return.
9Ichthyornis
Lazy Beach Bodies
The Ichthyornis, often found on the beach inArk, is more of a nuisance than a help. Trying to tame this “seagull of doom” just wastes your time and resources.It has low health, so it’s easy to kill, making combat against it pointless. The few berries it drops aren’t worth the hassle it causes.
Its main annoying feature is thatit steals items from your hotbar, and unlike other creatures that do this, the Ichthyornis doesn’t provide any useful benefits in return. There are much better options for gathering berries and other resources. Plus, the little experience you get from killing them isn’t worth the frustration. It’s best to avoid taming them to keep your sanity intact.
8Microraptor
Tiny, But Not Effective
Taming a Microraptor inArk: Survival Ascendedisn’t worth your time or resources. It has very limited use,only capable of a weak stun attack that doesn’t work well and can be easily avoided. While it can briefly stop enemies, much better options are available, like stronger mounts or weapons. The Microraptor is small and fragile, making it easy prey for larger predators.
The effort needed to tame one – including using a lot of bait and careful planning – is far greater than any benefits you might get. Other small creatures, like the Pegomastax for gathering berries or the Mesopithecus for a bit of fun, are much more useful.The Microraptor doesn’t offer any real advantagesand can be more of a hassle than anything, making it a bad choice for your crew of dinos.
7Pelagornis
Regeneration Was Never So Useless
Taming a Pelagornis inArk: Survival Ascendedisn’t really worth the effort. While it can regenerate stamina in water, other mounts do this better. It’s slow and has little stamina compared to the Pteranodon, making itless useful for traveling on land or in water. Plus, aquatic predators can easily attack it, limiting its usefulness for exploring the ocean where better underwater mounts exist.

6Gallimimus
Fast, But Not Effective
The Gallimimus inArk: Survival Ascendedlooks good but isn’t very useful, making it a poor choice to tame. While it’s fast, other mounts are much more versatile. It can carry passengers, butthere are better creatures for transporting thingsthat can hold more and survive better. The Gallimimus is also weak in fights and is easily taken down by even average predators.
It takes a lot of damage from falls, which makes its speed less helpful when navigating tough areas.The effort and resources spent on taming a Gallimimus would be better used on creatures that provide real benefits, like better combat skills, more cargo space, or special gathering abilities. There’s really no good reason to waste time and resources on this creature.
5Doedicurus
Thatch Collectors, But Not Much Else
Taming a Doedicurus inArk: Survival Ascendedisn’t really worth the effort. While they can gather thatch, there are much better ways to collect it. You can use a harvesting tool to get a lot more thatch much quicker, even in the early game. Also,the Doedicurus has low health and weak attacks, making it not very useful in fights. That’s the kind of thing you want from most creatures you tame.
Unlike other creatures that can gather resources effectively or help with transportation,the Doedicurus doesn’t fill a valuable role either. It’s also slow, making it hard to handle, and its attack isn’t very effective compared to ranged weapons. Basically, spending time and resources on taming a Doedicurus isn’t a smart move. There are far better options for gathering resources early on and for combat later in the game, making the Doedicurus mostly unnecessary for manyArkplayers.
4Diplocaulus
It’s Unique But That Doesn’t Make It Useful
The Diplocaulus inArk: Survival Ascendeddoesn’t offer much besides a unique source of oxygen, making it a poor option for taming. It has low health and weak damage,so it can’t hold up in fights and easily gets defeated by even small threats. While it does provide oxygen underwater, you can easily get oxygen tanks, and there are better aquatic creatures to use. So it could fill a niche when absolutely necessary, but it’s hard to recommend this one.
Is Ark: Survival Ascended Getting More DLC In 2025?
Ark: Survival Ascended has been following the same DLC release order as Evolved, but will the remastered version continue getting DLC into 2025?
Spending time, resources, and a tame slot on a Diplocaulus isn’t worth it. There arebetter creatures for exploringand fighting. For example, a Basilosaurus is much better for underwater protection and exploration, while various flying and land mounts are more effective for combat and gathering resources.The Diplocaulus falls short compared to other options, and it’s simply not a great choice for your team inArk. Save your time and energy for tames that are more useful.
3Achatina
They Make Pearls, But What Else?
Taming Achatina inArk: Survival Ascendedisn’t really worth it because the benefits are minimal. Their main use is to produce pearls, but there are better ways to get them. You can farm black pearls from ocean creatures or use other sources, making Achatina less than very helpful. They move slowly and have low health,which makes thema poor choice for traveling or fighting. Unlike other tamed animals that can help with gathering resources, crafting, or protection, Achatina doesn’t bring anything special to the table.
The time and effort it takes to tame them by feeding them food that can spoil is far greater than the small reward you get. You’re better off spending your time and resources on more useful creatures.So try not to invest in Achatinabecause it’s not a good use of your in-game resources, and it’s smarter to focus on other tames that give you better returns for your time and effort.
2Archaeopteryx
They Can Fly, But Others Can
The Archaeopteryx inArk: Survival Ascendedmight seem like a good early choice for a tame because it can fly. However, it’s not really worth it. Taming one is tough, especially since it lives in the difficult Redwood biome and doesn’t offer much benefit. Unlike other flying creatures,the Archaeopteryx has low health and does very little damage, making it useless in fights. It’s also slow and doesn’t glide very far, so it’s not great for exploring or traveling compared to better options like Pteranodons or even the more advanced Phantoms later in the game.
Carrying it around is also a hassle because it has to stay on your shoulder, taking up valuable inventory space and causing more trouble than it’s worth. With the addition of the Glide Suit, the Archaeopteryx has become completely unnecessary. It’s best to focus your time and resources on other creatures that are much more helpful.
1Pogo
The Worst Of The Worst
Taming a Pogo inArk: Survival Ascendedisn’t worth the effort. Its main job is to gather berries, but other creatures can do that better, and you may gather them yourself easily.You can make a Pogo steal berries from your hotbar, but it’s not reliable and often takes up a tame slot for nothing. Also, Pogos can’t fight and are weak, making them easy to kill. The only slight plus of a Pogo is its novelty, but that doesn’t make it worth having when there are so many better options.
All these creatures don’t add anything to your inventory or base, so spending time and resources on them isn’t a good idea. You’d get much more use from a Dodo, a Parasaur, or just using a hatchet for some of them. Save your resources for creatures that can really help you survive inArk: Survival Ascended.
