Star Wars Movies

Every Star Wars Movie, Ranked Worst To Best

Looking at all nine Skywalker Saga entries and three spinoffs, we crown the best Star Wars movie in our full ranking of the galaxy far, far away.

10Shawn Levy’s Star Wars Movie

Levy’s Movie Remains Untitled But Seems To Be In The Works

As with many upcomingStar Warsmovies, little is known about Shawn Levy’s movie, although it is confirmed to be happening. In fact, quite recently, Levy indicated that he is interested in exploring a brand-new period inStar Wars. This is what makes this movie particularly exciting; it will theoretically continue the trend ofStar Warsmoving beyond the Skywalker Saga and truly bringing new stories to the table.

Levy’s history makes thisStar Warsmovie an intriguing one.

Moreover, Levy’s directing history makes thisStar Warsmovie an intriguing one. Levy’s last project was the massively popularDeadpool & Wolverine, which was full of humor (dark and otherwise). It’s unlikely thatStar Warswould permit precisely that tone in an upcoming movie, but Levy’s unique perspective would surely shape his yet untitledStar Warsproject. Presumably, this movie could be groundbreaking for the franchise.

9Skeleton Crew

Star Wars' Upcoming TV Show Is Sure To Bring Something New

Star Wars: Skeleton Crewis the next canon TV show to be released in the franchise, and its recently released trailer suggests how innovative the show will be. As promised,Star Wars’new show is a coming-of-age tale about a group of children lost in the galaxy. The trailer also shockingly revealed that Jude Law’s character, Jod Na Nawood, has the Force.

While it isn’t confirmed that Nawood is a Jedi (he may simply have the Force), this has interesting implications either way.Skeleton Crewis set during the New Republic era, and it would therefore be a major update for there to be a mysterious Jedi at the time. Even if he is merely Force-sensitive, though, this type of narrative has yet to be seen in the franchise. It will be fascinating to see how this story plays out.

8Taika Waititi’s Star Wars Movie

Waititi’s Unique Voice Will Be Perfect For Star Wars

Like Shawn Levy’sStar Warsmovie,Taika Waititi is confirmed to be directing an untitledStar Warsmovie. Also like Levy’s movie, the details of Waititi’s movie are unknown; however, Waititi has spoken about his continued work on the movie and how much he wants to get the story right. Of course, Waititi has also mentioned that hisStar Warsmovie is likely to make audiences angry, but that doesn’t reveal very much;Star Warshas a fanbase known to dislike new ideas, so it remains unclear what that comment could mean.

Nevertheless, Taika Waititi’s track record speaks for itself in terms of what he could bring toStar Wars. Waititi has been very involved in theThorfranchise in the MCU, most recently working onThor: Love and Thunder. This movie, along with Waititi’s showOur Flag Means Death, reveals how unique Waititi’s sense of humor is.Star Warshas yet to produce a true comedy, but perhaps Waititi’s movie could be the very first.

Star Warshas yet to produce a true comedy, but perhaps Waititi’s movie could be the very first.

Asajj Ventress

Asajj Ventress has had an incredible arc inStar Wars. In canon, she was introduced inStar Wars: The Clone Warsas Count Dooku’s assassin. Over the course of the show, her story developed to include her backstory as aNightsister of Dathomirand her transition from Dooku’s lackey to a bounty hunter. However, her story truly took a turn inStar Wars: The Bad Batchwhen she reappeared with a yellow lightsaber, suggesting she may have joined the light side of the Force.

In the show, she even helped test Omega in the Force, furthering the notion that her allegiances had changed. Now,Star Warshas confirmed that Ventress will return to the franchise, although it isn’t clear when she will be doing so or in what project. As Ventress has only appeared in animation so far, presumably, her nextStar Warsstory will be animated, but no matter the form, her return is sure to be thrilling.

6LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy

This Non-Canon Miniseries Looks Amazing

LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxymay not be canon, but it has gained an impressive amount of attention for the promise it seems to hold. Specifically,Rebuild the Galaxyis billed as a hilarious galaxy-breaking miniseries that sees the return ofStar Warsheavy hitters Mark Hamill and Ahmed Best. Hamill will be returning as the voice of Luke Skywalker—humorously taking shots at the sequel trilogy—but Ahmed Best will be bringing something long hoped for inStar Wars: Darth Jar Jar.

Sadly, this miniseries will only include four episodes, but those four are sure to pack a punch. Already, the trailers have made it clear thatRebuild the Galaxywill not hold back from breaking the rules. In fact, because this show isn’t canon, it seems to have significantly more room to take risks, which will no doubt be a joy to watch.

5Dawn Of The Jedi

This Jedi Origin Story Is Surely One To Watch

Although details have been sparse, the Jedi origin story is coming toStar Warsin a movie rumored to be titledDawn of the Jedi. This movie is said to be set 25,000 years before the prequel trilogy and reveal the very beginnings of the Jedi. This will truly be an incredible update to the franchise and perhaps be the first ofStar Wars’movies and TV shows to truly move beyond the Skywalker Saga.

Even shows and movies that have claimed to be distinct from the Skywalker Saga, such asThe Acolyte, still feel tied to the prequel trilogy era and the stories and legacies of those characters. In fact, shows set in the New Republic era such asThe Mandalorian,The Book of Boba Fett, andAhsokaalso remain directly linked to the prequels and to the original trilogy. A movie such asNew Jedi Orderwill necessarily be genuinely innovative, and, of course, the origins of the Jedi will be downright thrilling to see.

Cassian Andor

Andoris largely considered one ofStar Wars’best TV shows, for good reason. For one, this show was a spin-off from the nearly equally popularRogue One: A Star Wars Story, which perfectly pulled off aStar Warsmovie that didn’t center on the Jedi. However, the show is also excellent in its own right. Season 1 continued the tone ofRogue One, taking a boots-on-the-ground look at the Rebellion and revealing how the everyday citizens of the galaxy fought back against the Empire.

Season 2 will undoubtedly maintain that same tone and focus. However, because season 2 is the final season of the show, it must also act as a bridge between season 1 andRogue One. It will be thrilling to see howAndorpulls this off and, based on its performance thus far, sticks the landing.

Ahsoka Tano

Ahsokaseason 1 was full of surprising twists, from the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker to the revelation that Sabine Wren became Ahsoka Tano’s Jedi apprentice followingStar Wars Rebels. However, theAhsokafinalewas far from a resolution to the many questions and mysteries that emerged in the first season of the show. Rather,Ahsokaseason 1 ended with a number of major cliffhangers, and season 2 will finally provide some answers.

Although Ezra Bridger managed to make it off Peridea, he sadly did so along withGrand Admiral Thrawn, one of the most significant threats to the galaxy inStar Warscanon. Now, not only is the galaxy facing this threat, but also, Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren find themselves trapped on Peridea. In addition to all of this, Baylan Skoll was last seen on a mission to find out more about the Mortis Gods. Excitingly, these many plot points will no doubt be addressed in the upcoming second season.

Mortis Gods Explained: Star Wars History, Powers, Planet & Importance

The Mortis gods are some of Star Wars’ most powerful Force-wielders, and Dave Filoni is using them to unite The Clone Wars, Rebels, and now Ahsoka.

2New Jedi Order

Rey’s Upcoming Star Wars Movie Could Truly Change The Game

TheStar Warssequel trilogy might still be highly controversial in the franchise, butRey’s upcomingStar Warsmovie, rumored to be titledNew Jedi Order, represents a major opportunity for the future of the franchise. Given the rumored name, and the confirmation that the movie takes place 15 years afterThe Rise of Skywalker, this movie will presumably see Rey establishing her own Jedi Order in the wake of the events of the sequel trilogy.

This therefore really is a new era ofStar Wars, and the future is entirely unwritten. While the sequel trilogy may legitimately have made some unfortunate choices, this movie has the ability to take the franchise in a new (and better) direction. The details really do remain to be seen, but the possibilities the movie represents are absolutely exciting.

1The Mandalorian & Grogu

Star Wars' Beloved Father-Son Duo Is Coming To The Big Screen

Easily the most exciting upcomingStar Warsproject isThe Mandalorian & Grogu, which has a confirmed release date of July 25, 2025. This movie truly is the only one of its kind, as it means a jump from the small screen to the big screen inStar Wars. Moreover, this movie earned this high honor becauseThe Mandalorian’scharacters and stories are so beloved. In fact,The Mandalorianseason 3 endingconfirmed that Din Djarin formally adopted Grogu and took him on as his Mandalorian apprentice. Now, Din Djarin has even agreed to help the New Republic.

The story in this new movie therefore has a number of incredible possibilities, and with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni at the helm, hopes are appropriately high. As the release date approaches,Star Warswill also undoubtedly be offering more updates, details, and even trailers. Even before that, though,The Mandalorian & Groguis truly the most exciting of all the thrilling upcomingStar Warsmovies and TV shows.
