Some of the funniest moments in anime happen by accident.Sure, it’s always great to see Goku be funny on purpose, but nothing is funnier than when his naïveté accidentally shines through, revealing that one of the strongest warriors around might just be a goofball. Accidentally funny moments in anime don’t happen often, making their appearance even more noteworthy. Having accidentally funny moments is always refreshing and can be a nice reprieve from serious moments.
Sometimes, it’s hard to tell if a character is being funny on purpose or by accident. As long as it’s funny, it doesn’t really matter in the end. Some characters, like Goblin Slayer, aren’t really written to be that funny. Given the context of their situation, though, viewers can’t help but laugh atthe absurdity of his one-track-mindednessand his overwhelming dedication to slaying goblins.

10Gon and Killua
Hunter x Hunter
Gon and Killua are two of the craziest children in anime. They’re in their pre-teens during the events ofHunter x Hunter, making their jaw-dropping feats even funnier.Gon and Killua are two of thestrongest characters inHunter x Hunter, even though they are barely a few feet tall. When they enter the Hunter Exam, nobody takes them seriously. Killua then fights hundreds of people at once, stealing all of their Hunter badges before the proctor even notices.
Gon and Killua’s outrageous strength is made hilarious by their indifference to it.They don’t care that they’re walking tanks, they just want to have fun and pursue their goals. Together, they stand out in every crowd and make everyone around them wonder why they’re so ridiculously powerful. Gon can sacrifice his future to defeat Pitou in battle, but he can’t do basic math problems.

9Kyouko Hori
Horimiya
Horimiyais anexceptional wholesome romance animein a world filled with harems and other nonsense. The series stars Miyamura and Hori, two characters who fall in love with each other. The series explores their developing relationship and their lives in school. One of the funniest parts of the series is Hori’s… interesting desires. For whatever reason, she loves it when Miyamura treats her like garbage. He hates it, but being the good boyfriend he is, he’ll talk smack to his girlfriend if that’s what she wants.
Watching Hori demand that Miyamura treat her poorly is always hilarious. It’s at its funniest when Miyamura treats Hori poorlyin front of one of their friends who doesn’t fully understand the situation. All they see is Miyamura bullying his girlfriend, who somehow… likes it?Horimiyais a great romance series to watch and Hori makes it hilarious.
8Bakugo
My Hero Academia
Bakugo is angry like a 24/7 restaurant is open. He’s never not furious, which is usually funny given that he doesn’t really have anything to be mad at. He’s the most angry with his rival Deku, who again rarely does anything worthy of Bakugo’s ire. Bakugo’s anger might seem overwhelming, but it’s almost always a joke. He’s a hot-headed character who is also a beast on the battlefield. Outside of it, he’s still a hothead willing to fight about anything.
Bakugo’s prideful nature makes him a great character inMy Hero Academia. While other characters might have given up when they find out their rival inherited thesecond-strongest quirk in the world, Bakugo didn’t. He decided that he would work even harder andinsult Deku even moreto become the strongest man he could be.
7Aijou Rentarou
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You
Aijou Rentarou has the ultimate harem in100 Girlfriends. He wished for love, and he got so much more than he expected. If he doesn’t love one of his soulmates, they’ll die. The premise is funny in and of itself, butRentarou’s reaction to the love around him is hilarious.
He treats each of his girlfriends equally, which is incredibly noble and funny. Every other man in this situation would be a cheater, but not Rentarou. He’s a genuine, honest man to each of his girlfriends, an anime first. When he’s not with one of his dozens of girlfriends, he’s meeting a new one, adding to his every growing list of soulmates.
6Kuroko
Kuroko’s Basketball
Kuroko’s Basketballis agreat sports animethat stars Tetsuya Kuroko and his new teammate Taiga Kagami. Taiga is one of the best basketball players in Japan for his age. He’s dominant on the court, scoring when he wants and getting past his opponents with strength and speed. Kuroko couldn’t be more different. He’s an excellent basketball player because heisn’tdominant. He doesn’t score when he wants, and he rarely gets past his opponents, but that’s his greatest strength.
Kuroko’s inability to play normal basketball being his greatest strength is hilarious.Normally, nobody would want to be a ghost on the court, but Kuroko does. He’s not the funniest character all the time, but his role as a shadow is pretty funny given the context. All of his friends are exceptional at basketball because of their skills, and his biggest basketball skill is being a good friend.
5Ainz Ooal Gown
Overlord
Isekai protagonists are no strangers to being insanely overpowered. Some ofthe strongest characters in animeget powers when they get transported to a new world. Ainz is a unique exception in that he was already overpowered before he was locked in the world of Yggdrasil. When he realizes he’s the last real person left, he decides to dominate the world in order to find another person.
His Iä Shib-Niggurath spell is so strong, his allies started clapping for him out of fear. It’s a hilarious moment that highlights the difference between Ainz’s strength and the NPCs living in his new world. He’s also accidentally hilarious when he makes half a plan only for his allies to make the rest for him, assuming that that was what he intended the whole time.Overlordis never more funny than when Sebas and Demiurge are coming up with their leader’s plans for him, only to give him credit in the end.
4Goblin Slayer
Goblin Slayer
Goblin Slayeras a series is dark, bleak, and unforgiving. The first episode is a jaw-dropper and the series doesn’t get much lighter. While the series is based on some pretty tough stuff, Goblin Slayer’s one-track-mind is worthy of a good laugh. His name couldn’t tell his story much better: this guy just wants to kill goblins. He doesn’t care about bigger monsters, he doesn’t care about smaller monsters,he cares aboutgoblins.
The fact that Goblin Slayer’s vocabulary isn’t just the word “goblin” is surprising. The only thing funnier than how focused he is on goblins is how determined and prepared he is to beat them. They’re by no means an easy enemy, but Goblin Slayer prepares for total war every time he’s going to face a goblin, no matter if it’s 10 or 1. His insane determination is one of the funniest parts of the entire series.
3Shadow
The Eminence in Shadow
Like Ainz Ooal Gown,Shadow accidentally predicts the future all the time. He’ll be telling Alpha a story he’s making up on the spot only to learn that everything he said was true. He doesn’t have a magical ability to predict the future, and he can’t shape the events around him more than anyone else, but he’s always right. It’s always funny to see Shadow making up some nonsense about the eerie Cult of Diablos only for Beta to confirm that he’s 100% right.
10 Isekai Anime With The Best Art Styles, Ranked
Isekai animes often feature vibrant worlds filled with magic, mayhem, and more. Here are some of their best art styles, ranked
Shadow isn’t even trying to be right, which makes it even funnier. He just wants to be the titular Eminence in Shadow, but he’s also the enigmatic leader of Shadow Garden. As Cid, he’s carefree and aloof, but as Shadow, he’s an ego-maniac. He flies around the battlefield, threatening to use his I Am Atomic abilities before disappearing into the night.
2Goku
Dragon Ball
Goku really only ever thinks about fighting. He’s not the worst dad, he’s a decent husband, but at the end of the day, he’s a simple character who wants to fight the strongest people he can see. His overwhelming naïveté is always funny inDragon Ball. There are even points in the series whereGoku seems to imply that he doesn’t know what kissing is, even though he has two children. Even though he’s the strongest fighter in all of Universe 7, he can’t even pass his driving test.
Goku might be intentionally funny some of the time, but he’s at his best when he’s funny on accident. While there are ways to interpret his actions, some of them are just funny. Gohan is the opposite of a fighter, so when he’s sent to fight Cell he does it because he has to. Before their fight, however, Goku gives Cell a Senzu Bean so he can fully recover. Whatever his reasoning is, it’s hilarious to see a man power up his enemy just to fight his own son.
1Baki
Baki
Bakimight be one of the most unintentionally funny series around, but it might be entirely intentional, andthat’s what makes the show so good.Bakiis a series centered around the titular Baki as he looks to avenge his mother’s death at the hands of his father, the Ogre Yujiro Hanma. In order to get strong enough to face his dad, Baki undergoes ridiculous training. He fights imaginary opponents to get stronger, and while that might not sound absurd, hisfakeopponents often win.
10 Craziest Baki Moments That Make It So Ridiculously Good
Baki is an anime centered on brutal fights and is willing to hilariously throw logic out of the window at a moments notice
At one point in the series, Yujiro breaks into Baki’s home to tell him to be more intimate with his girlfriend, whileBaki is being intimate with his girlfriend. It’s an insane show from top to bottom in the best way possible, and Baki himself is a great representation of the absurdity. One of the funniest moments in the show comes when Baki finds a new way to fight Pickle, the world’s strongest prehistoric man. His new fighting style isn’t some form of Muay Thai, or Boxing, or any of the other legitimate martial arts Baki has mastered. Instead,he just imitates dinosaurs.
