Summary
Pulling the right characters is crucial to success inSword of Convallaria, but more important is investing in them. As they play through the game’s campaign, players receive a pool of generic XP that can be applied to any of their summoned characters at will. This increases their base stats, but must be used in conjunction with other materials to unlock new abilities. Players can also spend badges to upgrade their characters, leveling them up along a branching skill tree. They can also equip certain weapons, armor, and accessories to further increase their stats and grant them special buffs.
So, there are a variety of ways to strengthen characters inSword of Convallaria, but resources are few and characters are many. As a result, it’s best to know which characters have the best paths of progression, and which of them are most worthy of investment. These are ten of the bestSoCcharacters to invest in, as of August 2024.

10Maitha Is Worth Investing In, Even After Tutorials
Legendary Defender
Sword of Convallaria’stutorials basically force players to pour their first few thousand XP into Maitha, a free character summoned automatically during the opening chapters of the story. That makes Maitha one of the strongest characters in the early game, and with continued investment, she can keep that title throughout much of the campaign. Maitha is sort of a jack-of-all-trades, blending reliable DPS with some solid support abilities. She automatically gains the Block buff, and can heal the lowest-HP ally at the end of every turn. Her knockback attack, Leg Slam, is incredibly useful for pushing enemies off the map.
As Maitha levels up,she gains better skills in all categories. She can use Come On, Everybody! to buff surrounding allies, and eventually gain Invulnerable to greatly increase her defense and allow her to block attacks from behind. She’s an incredible tank and a decent all-rounder worth spending some XP and badges on.

9Rawiyah Is One Of SoC’s Best Free Characters
Legendary Breaker
In a similar vein, Rawiyah is one of a handful of characters that players recruit automatically while progressingSword of Convallaria’s campaign. She’s easily the strongest free character by damage output, andinvesting a few experience points in her only makes her stronger. Rawiyah is a natural leader with a massive sword and a penchant for a stiff drink. Her passive buffs simply boost her damage output, and gives her a chance to gain back some of her HP at the start of every turn. She also sometimes randomly gains the Tipsy buff, which increases her speed and damage.
As Rawiyah levels up,she can choose from a variety of different attacks. Toughness prevents her from experiencing the ill effects of the Injured and Dying statuses, keeping her fighting fit at low HP. She excels when it comes to cross- and square-shaped AoEs, allowing her to attack enemies in a wide range around her.

8Momo Has A Unique Damage Over Time Strategy
Legendary Destroyer
While characters who simply excel at attacking or defending are useful, it can be helpful to have a few fighters with unique mechanics on the roster. Momo is one such character, promoting a damage-over-time build that relies on the unique Infection status effect. Infection decreases an enemy’s HP turn by turn. Momo can place multiple stacks of Infection on each enemy, gradually increasing the damage applied to them until it becomes deadly. Combine that with her ability to buff her own DoT effects, and she becomes a powerful offensive character with a satisfying strategy.
At higher ranks,Momo gains a wide variety of AoEskillsthat make her excellent for crowd control. Dark Ripple deals massive magic damage to all enemies in a two-tile radius, deactivating their passive buffs and reaction skills for two turns. Momo also has some handy defense passives that make her one of the hardier mages inSword of Convallaria.

7Magnus Is A Powerful, Self-Buffing Defender
Magnus shares a banner with Dantalion, which hints at the two characters' powerful synergy. Both characters focus on buffing, with special, unique bonuses to their own attacks. They can work well on their own, too, though. Wherever Magnus stands on the battlefield, he automatically decreases the attack and defense of all surrounding enemies, while increasing his own attack. On attacking with Mountain Breaker, he can deal massive damage, while also isolating injured enemies from their allies' aura bonuses.
As Magnus levels up,he gains a variety of powerful buffs and attacksthat can easily turn the tide of any battle, with or without Dantalion. Cry of Victory will buff his and all surrounding allies' damage, while debuffing nearby enemies' defense, each time an enemy is defeated in his vicinity. Bloodthirsty Axe allows him to perform counter attacks whenever he’s hit from the front or side. His final skill, Iron Chariot, will deal up to 200% of his physical attack damage while also increasing his defense.

Is Sword of Convallaria Really Free-To-Play?
Sword of Convallaria is marketed as a free-to-play gacha game, but some content is locked behind a paywall. Here’s what players get for free.
6Dantalion Is A High-Damage, High-Defense Powerhouse
But sometimes,Sword of Convallariabattles simply require high-damage characters who can cut down anything in their paths. EnterDantalion, a Legendary-tier Destroyer summon who can deal massive damage and heal himselfwhile doing it. The centerpiece of Dantalion’s abilities is Path to Kingship, which boosts his attack and defense, scaling as it levels to ensure his stats grow at an exponential rate. Path to Kingship also recovers increasingly large portions of Dantalion’s HP and a single point of NRG each time he defeats an enemy, ensuring he constantly has the resources necessary to charge into battle with devastating attacks.
AndDantalion has many options when it comes to devastating attacks. His regular attack, White Sword, has a longer reach than most melee weapons, allowing him to swing at enemies up to two tiles away. For higher-rank skills, consider NRG-Depleting Blow, which does exactly what it says on the tin. Endless Dawn later allows Dantalion to deal AoE damage in a massive nine-tile range, and also pushes any enemies within it back.

5Nungal Has Incredible Attack Range
Range is an ongoing problem withSword of Convallaria’s characters. Although many of them ostensibly have ranged options, like magic or bows, most of them can only attack within one or two squares. This often requires these low-defense characters to leave themselves vulnerable in order to attack, which makes them a lot less viable in combat.Nungal singlehandedly fixes most of the issues withSoC’s rangers, boasting the longest range in the game with her crossbow.
A good Nungal build incentivizes keeping her at the backof the action, behind tankier characters, while she slowly chips away at enemy forces from her position of safety. The skill Sniping Stance increases the range of her attacks by two tiles, which is essential to making the most of her abilities. Dharana boosts her critical hit chance if there are no enemies within a two-tile square. Other than that, most of Nungal’s skills simply focus on buffing her ranged attacks and granting her new ones. She may be a one-trick pony, but she does that one trick well.

Solo Leveling: ARISE Review: Worth Your Time, Maybe Not Your Money
Solo Leveling: ARISE is a wonderful action RPG title with a lot to offer, though it’s mildly hampered by its gacha nature and aggressive shop layouts.
4Col Has A Unique Stealth Mechanic
Legendary Seeker
Unlike most characters inSword of Convallaria, who confront their enemies head-on,Col is all about stealth and subterfuge. She’s encouraged to attack enemies from the sides or back to maximize her damage while keeping her safe from harm. Col’s most important ability is Ambush, which gives her additional damage when striking an unharmed target, and also deactivates their passives if she gets them from behind. She can also use skills like Traceless Shadow and Eerie Footwork to teleport behind her enemies, allowing her to quickly change her standing and maximize her positional advantage.
Mask is another central part of Col’s skillset, allowing her toturn invisible and increase her critical hit rate, while also recovering HP. Many of her skills also afford her the Dodge buff, allowing her to avoid incoming attacks. Although mostly a lone wolf, Col also makes a decent team player, with Perfect Assassin improving her stats across the board when fighting with fellow Alacrity allies.

3Inanna Is Sword Of Convallaria’s Best Healer
Legendary Watcher
Up until now, every character on this list has been a DPS or a tank. Some of them have minor healing abilities, but these are limited, and often can only target the caster themselves. That’s plenty useful, but what about the pure healers? Well, with enough investment in Inanna, she’ll quickly become the only healer players will ever need. Inanna’s innate trait auto-heals the lowest-HP ally at the end of each turn, which can come in clutch when allies are surrounded by enemies. This ability also summons a Guard of the Princess at the beginning of each battle, who’ll sometimes take damage in place of a weaker party member.
Inanna does gain some offensive abilities later, buther most important skill just might be Princess’s Comfort. this allows her to heal everyone in a two-tile radius, and dispel debuffs. Inanna can also use Princess’s Prayer to grant one of her allies the ability to take a second action.

Genshin Impact: All Cryo Characters, Ranked
Genshin Impact includes multiple characters split between six different elements. Here is how the Cryo characters stack up to one another.
2Beryl Is A High-Damage Mage With A Wealth Of Options
Beryl is one of the most sought-after characters inSword of Convallaria, and shares a banner with Col.She’s a mage who excels at both single-target attacks and AoEs, making her pound-for-pound one of the best DPS characters in the game. Beryl’s trait increases her base magic attack, and also gives her the chance to earn a random buff at the beginning of each turn. The usefulness of these buffs vary, but Beryl doesn’t need them. With the right offensive skills, she’s a force to be reckoned with in almost any battle.
For single-target skills, Beryl can use Chuu Chuu Chuu! to deal three armor-piercing attacks to a target, or later, cast Scorching Attack to deal a damage-over-time effect. For AoEs, try Wall of Flame for a cross-shaped inferno, or Flaming Meteor to damage all enemies around Beryl. She can also reduce her vulnerability to burning tiles, allowing her to walk through her own fires unharmed. However, since Beryl’s defense is a little lower than most, it’s worth spending a bit on her equipment as well as experience.

1Gloria Is The Best Character In SoC To Date
Of all the characters currently worth investing in,Gloria is easily the best. Gloria begins each battle with a move called Flag of Justice, in which she increases her attack and all of her allies' movement, attack, and defense with a status effect called Flag Waving. This lasts for two full rounds, at which point it’s replaced by Potential Burst, a new status effect that greatly increases Gloria’s attack and defense while also preventing her from being debuffed. This makes her a powerful ally when surrounded by likeminded soldiers, and an asset in any battle from beginning to end.
But leveling Gloria up reveals an even more powerful set of skills. Many of her abilities are dependent on whether she has Flag Waving active, sometimes changing their nature entirely. This makes her very versatile in any number of situations. In a tight spot, she can use Lance of Longinus to deal damage and end Flag Waving willingly, greatly buffing her own abilities. However, she’ll leave a flag behind to buff any teammates in the area. Due to her powerful solo attacks and excellence as a team player, Gloria is one of the best characters currently available inSword of Convallaria.
